The General Motors Building is 215 m and this is 2,5 times taller, and a bit wide.

Yes it is too tall, but not that much, I thought it was going to be shorter. I calculate it using the One57 height and check it with the Citigroup Center and it would be about the height marked with the red lines. The ground line is higher relative to the Hudson since One57 is about 23 meters above sea level. I choose that elevation although 432 Park Ave is in a little bit lower ground, about 15 meters, according to GE.
It would be pretty tall whatsoever and it will stand out in the skyline indeed.

Works have commenced following the public holiday. The crane is working and they are setting out the road barriers to allow the delivery trucks to park up. A concrete truck has arrived so it looks like the first pour is about to happen.

Yeah baby. They are moving with this

Interestingly the other crane is still there though it doesn't appear active at the moment.

The workers showed up early - it is only 7 am now and barely light out at all and they are already working. Hate to think about what time these guys get up in the morning.

ok, they are pouring the concrete now on the wall along the 56th street side. Nothing too exciting yet but it is progress.

They have a lot of people at the site - it really looks like a beehive of activity.

very interesting. On the left hand side I see them putting up some type of freestanding scaffolding that looks like it might be to support a wood frame like you see further to the right. But wouldn't they need true support beams that would really hold up the entire floor? The floor can't just be completely suspended in air once the floor is poured and the scaffolding removed.

Proportionally the above is too tall and too wide.
432 is almost exactly twice the height of the GM building...note what Tim says above

Just walked by and they have two huge buckets for dumping concrete sitting on the street ready to go...definitely going to be some big pours this week.
They were also unloading a truckload of misc. ladders, tools, and scaffold planks.

ps Crane operator was there at 6:00 AM checking his rig with flashlight!

Is the reason for going that high because of the very small footprint? If the area was larger the tower would have been shorter or is it all for the show?

Nope, it would have had the same shape because of windows. nobody would want to live in windowless rooms. Residential buildings have to be thin if they want to be successful because a thin building has maximum of its rooms with natural light. The richest people in the world wouldn't buy an apartment without sunlight

There is already rebar for a new floor on the core and some of the perimeter columns, so I can only guess that there is some serious pouring going on below those wooden decks
