Can someone please explain what the black mat like things on top of the wood are? They are really prevelent and I assume they have some purpose.

Interesting that no rebar is being laid out yet. I guess they are still a ways off from a pour?

Those black things are simply forms that were used previously. Forms that have been used repeatedly have been sprayed with form-release agents, concrete poured on them, stripped, then cleaned for the next use, and over time, get dark from use.

Given the floor area, it may take a while before a pour. There may be box-outs required for electrical junction boxes, conduits with pull-strings for wiring, pour stops, etc. etc. needed before pouring. Rebar is being currently placed. Most likely, the lower floor currently being worked on will be poured first. Also, don't forget, that core walls, and column forms are being constructed below the floor, which we cannot observe.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess all this work is why basement levels take a while.

I do notice there is more and more vertical rebar. It is definitely looking to me like we likely won't get a pour this week. But when we do get one it will be so big I sort of wonder if they can do it all in one day which is what they really want to do, right?

There is no reason why the lower floor cannot be poured in a single operation. Two concrete buckets are normally used for pours. Each bucket holds 3 cubic yards of concrete; one is filled at the street, while the other is being emptied. The usual sequence is pour columns, then slabs.

No. I deleted that post because it was an ungrounded one-liner that didn't add anything to the discussion but a personal remark.

Currently pouring at the 57th street side, but the 57th cam doesn't seem to work properly for me.

They are pouring right now but I can't see where.

Edit: Seem to be pouring in the core area, maybe a bit closer to 57th street

[QUOTE=erbse;96476893]^ The main purpose of the threads over here is to discuss the projects - both their construction and their architecture.
If you're not interested in these discussions, just ignore them.

QUOTE]

ok, but you are still going to move this discussion to the architecture section right? Hopefully soon.

Notice since this argument began almost all the great posts we were getting about the construction have stopped. I don't mind ignoring your comments but the problem is these extranious and pedantic arguments drive other more on topic posts off the thread.

So if this can all be moved by tomorrow that would be great. Thanks again.

Also, there are some items that look like outhouses. I asume they are not outhouses. Can someone tell us what they are? They seem to be some sort of stacked material.

Looks like they are pooring the columns, of which you can only see the top.
