[QUOTE=marcatio;96532624]The floor slab would typically have four layers of reinforcing steel. The size of the bars used depend on the floor loading (live and dead loads in pounds per square foot) and the span between supporting columns. Typically noted as an example: "#6 E.W. top and bottom, meaning #6 (size of bars in 1/8" increments) E.W. (each way) top and bottom (near top and bottom of slab).

Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

Where would they give specs on the depth of the concrete? And can you venture a guess on how thick the floors they are working on will be? Six inches? A foot? More?

That's awesome news. 426 meters is an impressive height and it will comfortably give 432 Park the title for at least a year or two (man, I'm dying to learn the final height of 225 and the Hudson North Tower)

600West218,

"Where would they give specs on the depth of the concrete? And can you venture a guess on how thick the floors they are working on will be? Six inches? A foot? More? "

In American practice, construction documents typically consists of two parts: the plans and the specifications. The thickness of the floor slabs would typically be shown on the structural drawings, along with the type of reinforcement and placement of such reinforcement. The compressive strength of the concrete would also be found there. The specifications would outline the standards of the concrete, such as formwork, how it is to be worked, finish, etc.

Some idea of the thickness of the floor being worked can be gotten from 325ccr's photo he posted a few days ago: note the height of the pour stops at the perimeter of the formwork. A guess?? Maybe 12 inches??

it's small so i'm not surprised they're able to keep it in such tight order.

looking at teh webcam, there seems to be little room for storage of materials and equipment. Must be quite tight planning.

I never got too near to 1WTC on my visit to NYC, but I was pretty close to One57, and its height left me speechless. To think that this tower will be 100 meters or so taller baffles me. Plus the thinness will make it seem EVEN TALLER!
