Cranes are checked on all projects on a regular basis. At least they should be.

One thing the cam has educated me on is that there always seem to be two people on the crane when it is operating. One operating it and the other walking around and checking the cables, etc.

How long might such testing take?

I see the guys on the crane but I haven't seen it move. But I wasn't watching.

Half the normal guys at the site. Hopefully more tomorrow.

It did move a few times, not sure if they are still doing more testing tomorrow or what the plan is as most workers have left for the day.

The site's busy again, being full of workers inspecting their equipment. The only bad thing is that the 57 cam isn't working, though it's not like we'll gonna miss anything.

ok, they have lifted the ban on construction as of today:

Exterior construction work in New York City can resume on Thursday, the mayor said, lifting a ban that had been in effect since the weekend.

He said a plan was in place to secure the dangling crane on 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, but he did not provide a timeline for when the restrictions on pedestrian and car traffic in the vicinity would be lifted.

Things are really getting back to normal so assuming they have the crane inspected this should start moving soon. :-)

Glad to see on the webcam that construction is still going on, although it is not as busy as last week.

Today is really slow at the site. Less people than yesterday. Probably they don't have the crane approved for operation and without it working there is no need to have many workers on site. That is my guess.

I don't think it is a problem with the crane or anything else inside the construction site. Remember that the whole region is far from normalcy. A construction depends on a chain of which many of its links could be broken because of the storm. For the workers it is difficult to reach the worksite because of the transportation shortages. Also, many suppliers could not be abble to work and deliver materials needed in daily basis because their facilities could be flooded, damaged or have power shortages (or all of the above) There are gas shortages too, or maybe they could be required to collaborate with some emergency repairments of infraestructure. So, it is no wonder that they can't fully resume work here or in any other construction site across the region.
