I hope they design a glass building....the central park area could use some mix of glass facades and classy 19th century buildings which are already in abundance!

Maybe something like this?

I hope it looks nothing like that. And Central Park has tons of glass towers around it.

None that are too noticeable though! Apart from the time warner twins course....

Besides if they are planning to make a 400ish m supertall, why not someting fancy and iconic? rather than the boring old rectangular box

There's nothing icon about that thing you post. And I don't have a problem with box buildings.

Its a surprise that you'd find people on a skyscraper site calling other buildings 'things'.

Moreover, Manhattan is full of boxy buildings, its about time Manhattan got what it deserves..something contemporary and not a 400 meter pen case

Lookin forward to the final design!

You're right; I wouldn't be shocked if it had over 100 floors.

That is the most disgusting and tacky piece of trash I've ever seen. A classic case of trying too hard to be 'modern' and failing miserably. I'm glad NYC doesn't design such buildings. India I believe? They can keep their cheap showy tower designs, they wouldn't fit in NYC. Listen, NYC has its own classic style derived from modernism, classicism and art-deco. If you want Dubai or Shanghai style ostentatious and pompous buildings to go up in NYC, your wasting your time commenting here. Everyone knows what kind of buildings NYC builds. No need to compare them to Asian cities as the situation in NYC is nothing like over there.

As much as i love NYC. It isn't only the CITY which builds buildings. It are developers, who try to make a profit with them. And in any case, it isn't a city which designs the towers, it are architects.

Only the agencies which decide if a building gets aproved or not, can be made responsible, if tacky designs made it through. Therefore i like what Amanda Burden did with the Tower Verre. Since it wouldn't fit the skyline with the previos design as much, as the current one does.

Fuuuuu, i am too off topic now. xD

I've got a question. Do they already have a final design which is still a secret or is this building still in the design planning phase?

Roughly 400m to come!

It's amazing that in a severe recession, NY is building multiple supertalls!

Note that Turnbull & Asser's name has been added to the building on the east side of the site in anticipation of its move.

Indeed--

I just started a blog, my newest post deals with 440 Park et al. The number of supertalls currently or on the verge of rising in Midtown is astounding.

Quote:
One57, located at 157 West 57th Street, is already under construction, and will top out at just over 1,000 feet. Torre Verre, the Museum of Modern Art’s Expansion, will also rise to 1,050 feet, although construction will likely hold off for another few years. Besides these two towers, Extell is also planning another building that is likely in excess of 1,000 feet at 225 West 57th Street.

A new era is clearly dawning for residential construction in Manhattan, and it is marked by extreme height. Each one of the buildings mentioned above will be taller than any existing residential towers in Manhattan, and all should be built by 2020 at the latest, a testament to the pressure New York’s housing market is currently under. As the disparity between demand and supply continues to increase, there is more pressure to develop as much residential as possible in the city. Combined with a surge in foreign investment, the perfect storm exists for the development of these super-tall residential buildings—and the aforementioned buildings are likely just the start.
And the complete blog article,
