We had a job in Sydney last year where the ties to building were around 10 metres.

As for other comments about how the crane is not at a right angle to the building. Well in this case it could have something to do with its early climbing due to the building next door.

But NYC seems to be the only place I've seen where the crane sections are off centre. This one could also be off to mirror the one on the other side re its pressure on the building.

Looking at the cab of this one tells me it's a new/recent building crane. If I has a SN in the late 1600, 1700 or 1800's then it is. It's SN should be on the slew ring.

I would say installing the larger tower sections would indicate this is going to climb a lot further than 7 floors for a retail area. That would only need about 14-15 sections. But seeing as though the other crane did place this one, then it could still climb a few more sections. Due to weight and height and angle of the boom, the other crane would struggle to lift above its own height.

So will that be the complete core with the blue around it? Not much for living space just 1 big circle.

If you look at the plans tho, some of the living space in integrated within the core.

if both cranes go all the way up, this thing will fly
but then with a billion invested, literally every day lost means hundreds of thousands of dollars out the window so they are motivated for sure
i think they will only be limited by the rate at which the concrete hardens

the core is not going to be obstructive, just look at the floor plans
out of the 4 main elevators, only two (one side) will go up to the levels with full floor apartments so those apartments will be able incorporate half the core too

Weather, industrial action, financing, the US economy and anything else that is unforeseen will affect this more than concrete hardening

Looks like not much is going to happen today besides installation of the A frame, crane boom, and cables..Have they installed the hydraulic winches yet?

weather maybe, but nothing else you listed: the people buying these flats have just had their wealth double-tripple etc. and they're not about to give that up anytime soon, on the other hand, they are eager to spend their money and spend it sooner than later

there is a reason why luxury goods and luxury companies/suppliers have skyrocketed over the last half decade while everyone and everything else has been in freefall: the rich are sucking the rest of us dry, hence you've got these buildings

Yes that's the awful truth behind these buildings.
But better don't think about that to much here, or you can't look at the construction of these buildings anymore.

The mast (white section, not including climbing cage) for the new crane looks a lot smaller than the mast for the original crane.

The new crane is either a Favco M220D or a M440D, can't tell but it looks very small.
