The concrete forms are going up quickly.

Question: Where the forms join each other how do they seal them and ensure they don't have an irregular shape at that joint?

I think they fit extremely well in each other. They squeeze them together so no gap will occur.

I believe someone just recently reposted some of the floor plans for various apartments, and yes, the full-floor apartments are utterly massive.

I believe that the first six or seven floors on the 57th St side will be like a glass cube protruding from the tower.

If this had been completed during hurricane Sandy I wonder if it had snapped in two.

I also wonder how earthquake resistant this thin building can be. Would it withstand a 7.0m earthquake? To me it looks dangerously thin for it's height.

I don't think earthquakes will be a serious threat to this building, let alone magnitude 7

Yeah, if this was in California there'd be a need to worry, but not in NYC.

Actually in an earthquake, the taller the better! If there was an earthquake that size, this building should survive. I would imagine the wind forces on it would be larger than the force of an earthquake, and I'm sure the engineers took into account both when designing a structure.
Seriously though, a magnitude 7 quake right under NY would easily be the worst natural disaster in US history.

Well anyway, I can't wait to see the cladding for this building (well lit exposed concrete AND the windows)

I agree, the main threat would be hurricanes. I don't think they will install a tuned mass damper to couter the swaying?

aren't the gaps at every certain amount of floors there to help itself against the wind by having wind pass through to stop as much strain on the tower itself?

According to the Occupancy/Use doc, the 80th floor will have a "Mechanical Room/Mass Damper"....

You think these will be put in the surface hole on the 56th side?

The Park Avenue cam won't load.

btw they are about to lift one of these enormous parts of rebar on the columns.
The same rebar as in the pics of 600West218 http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...95971&page=268

Indeed they are. This means they are taking exactly two weeks to do each of the outer floors at this point as it was exactly two week ago today that I took those pics.

This means they should pour the forms in the middle of the week and remove them next Friday so we can get a really clear shot of exactly what they look like as this level won't be blocked from the street by the fence.
