As for the bars, I don't think they are for underneath a floor laying horizontal. I think they are for temporary support helping the columns.
I think the same, they are temporary supports for the slab's formwork.

wow, this thing is already starting to pick up speed. Interesting to see how they are now moving the outer forms up. Before they removed and then reinstalled them. Now they just pull them up in place. This thing will have some serious speed within the next month or so.

Oh, and I think we must have a crane jump pretty soon. Can't imagine they can jump the core again without also jumping the crane.

Excellent progress. The tower's height appears to be officially longer than its width or length.

It wouldn't do any good to the building process though.

The yellow posts are Peri Skydeck Props which are the vertical supports of the this floor slab forming system. In the same pic, on the back of the truck, you will see the Skydeck panels which are the horizontal form portion of the same system.

You can find more information about the system at the following link:

I guess they account a few days of bad weather related delays, so I dont think it gets much affected.
Whatsoever, as seen in the cams, it is snowing right now (but also they seem to be working)
But I hope it doesn't affect the people much.

Now it seems that it started to fall some serious snow.
By the way, notice how all the roofs are already covered by a white layer, while the 432 recently poured slab is wet, because of the heat generated by the drying concrete.

Aghhhhh, so that is what accounts for that!!!!! I was wondering. Thanks for the explanation. This is part of why I love SSC - there are plenty of people here to learn from

Thanks to NYGuy on SSP for finding this:

"A sharp surge in demand has put "developers in a position of strength," says Hirsch. In particular, she says, "demand from international buyers--from Israel as well as the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) is enormous."

For example, "Our partner in Qatar is seeing loads of interest in 432 Park Avenue, at 56th Street," she says. "The entry-level priced apartments have sold out completely and the building isn’t even built yet. People are buying from floor plans even before a foundation is poured..."

that does not look to me like a problem unless they can't get materials or men in due to the snow on the roads.

It seems that, in New York City, it was a heavy snow, but not that bad. In other places like Boston it was much worst.
By now, watching at the cameras, the Sun is shinning.

Judging by what the Weather Channel is currently saying, Connecticut got the worst of the storm, with some places getting more than 30" of snow. Looks like NYC narrowly dodged a bullet with this one!

If the 00Z-9-Feb-2013 run of the GFSx weather model were to verify, then there will be another significant snow storm on Thursday followed by the whopper of all whoppers next weekend. (Source: Unisys.) Of course it won't verify, as anything that far out is just fantasy.

I'm surprised there are no workers on site today removing snow (unlike around the WTC). Rain Sunday night and Monday should melt much of it though.

0% chance of an obs deck. With the upper units pricing well north of $50M, and probably into the $80M+ for the penthouses, the last thing those people will want is a busy public space.
