alright so the deal is that the climbing form system shifted off line when it was being raised last week. i am not sure what exactly went wrong but something malfunctioned with the track/motor system.

also, expect a third tower crane to be erected in the center area in the next month or so

So why aren't they just fixing it and moving on?

The apparent complete dead stop is perplexing.

The issue is once the problem is resolved, they will have to get the sign off from DOB which can take a little time. The wait is frustrating though, I miss seeing this site buzzing.

A third crane in the center? How is that possible, these two cranes already need all the space there is.

It is unfortunate that a SWO (Stop Work Order) has been imposed on 432 Park Avenue, and so far to date, 4 working days have been lost, and possibly 5 working days if Saturday overtime was scheduled. However, I did watch continuously the raising of the climbing form on the east side of the new building, and noted that there was difficulty in raising it to full height. At one point, it hung up about a third to one-half of the way, and quite a few workers gathered around, presumably to somehow free the seemingly stuck form. Apparently, it seems that in finally raising it to full height, it damaged the parapet wall on the adjacent buiding, hence the SWO. Also of note, the DOB called the climbing form a "cocoon system", which is a different system. The core external covering that is part of the core climbing forms might be properly called a cocoon system.

There will not be another crane on this site. The third larger footing that was cast during foundation construction, just to the right of the current 56St crane, would be for the Alimak material hoist, that would be attached to the building tower as it climbs.

But a possible third crane have been said not to be outside the building, but atop the building itself.

According to builder37 who is somehow related with the construction

So, to answer your question, no, it is not for the retail part of the building.

There is a high likelihood "the" permanent crane will be installed inside the building once the project reaches the the mid-point in order to allow for retail and plaza construction to complete prior to superstructure completion.
Anyway, apparently, it seems that if install a third crane, they will retire the 57th st. crane, so there would remain two cranes.

Good news. We only have to wait until tomorrow to see if they resume the work. The guy already fixed the camera...

Not just it's skinny appearance, also it's loadbearing outer wall makes look very much like the supertall Dubai Marina towers.

For those who were wondering about the somewhat surreal dimensions. Converting the horizontal windforces vertically to the foundations is actually a mayor concern for these skinny towers. Since it works a bit like a cantilever, those forces can greatly exceed the weight of the building. Making the building wider, would be a solution. But they want a thin tower, so the structural parts are as wide as possible, in the outer wall. And the thick concrete frame we see now is the result, almost like a habitable mast, just like those Dubai Marina supertalls.
