So I'm shocked that Kanto hasn't posted in here. Is it fair to say at this point that he saw the render, had a heart attack, and is now dead?
While the design will be basic, the materials will be high-end. These will be VERY expensive apartments.

The more I look at it, the more I like it. It sort of reminds me of Taipei 101

Depending upon the acquisition of additional sites, it could go well above 1300, as of right.

Yes, boxes are made or broken by cladding. The quality of the final result hinges on the facade.

I hope that at least it will out top the 2 WTC ( 411 m ) to become the second higher tower in NYC after the Freedom Tower.

How often do you see a box this tall and slender? I think that is grounds for being iconic.

I was waiting for comment like that..

It's definitely an icon..But folks don't realize that..Everyone want's it to be spectacular by architecture, but no ones sees it that way in engineering way..Which it is..

But this is kinda to be expected..When new spectacular tower goes in public, everyone congratulate to architects, designers, etc..But no one ever says "engineers did a great job here, they made it stand so tall or iconic or spectacular"..Don't forget that architect can draw whatever he wants, but if there's no good engineer in that team, those drawings are useless..

I think it looks pretty good. It looks a lot better then that preliminary render from a few weeks back, even though it's basically the same... I hope this thing is taller then 2WTC and hopefully above 1400ft

The Domino Sugar redevelopment, also by Rafael Vinoly:

This may come closest to where Vinoly is going with this supertall. Suddenly an architect known for sweeping curves has become obsessed with the rectangular tube??

That's roughly what they can build, as of right, with their current properties. However, they can go higher if they acquire Nos. 36 and 48and air rights from No. 34.

Anyway, it's dawning upon me that this might be somewhat of a massing model that CIM released to show the approximate height. The drums are an integral part of the design.

Wall Street Journal says it's over 1,300ft: http://online.wsj.com/public/page/ne...ealestate_main

Also, their render:

Quote:
The loan was purchased by the CIM Group, which went on to secure control of the site but joined forces with Mr. Macklowe, who is helping develop the project. Sources say it will include a 1,350-foot tower with condominiums and a small hotel, as well as a 60,000-square-foot glass-cube retail space on tony East 57th Street.

It says tower will not top Empire State Building, so that's wrong... it's 1300+ feet tall, which means anywhere from 1301-1399 feet

well have to wait and see!

PS. This is going to cause NIMBY outrage, hopefully no one listens to them.,

I already posted other sources stating that the final height will be 1300ft+. And btw Nimbys have no say in this, as Robert will tell you this project is as of right.

From WSJ:
Quote:
The plans for the project, named 432 Park Ave., call for 128 condos with more than 12-foot high ceilings
Probably going to have 90 - 100 floors.

EDIT: Thread title should be changed to: NEW YORK | 432 Park Avenue | 411m | 1350ft | Prep
