That looks like an inch inset to me. To some people this would be considered flat, but wouldn't be considered flat to others. Shadows and highlighted edges will provide some texture but certainly not the extreme inset that is possible.

But really, renders are seldom entirely accurate, especially when dealing with a differences of just a couple inches. This forum is pretty good evidence of that.

Edit: Just saw a later post that makes an excellent point on the issue, regardless of the publicity renders.

They are pouring concrete right now.

I see a floor jump by Saturday, or maybe first thing Monday AM.

If true, they seem to now be at the 1 floor per week rate!!

I don't really like the idea of there being a glass cube on the corner. It's a waste of space. One day they would probably demolish it to build a tower there...

I like the glass cube. Think its cool. Macklowe wanted a retail space and could not assemble enough space for it so he had to be creative by incorporating a retail space underground with a nice glass cube is my guess. I really don't know but its not bad imo.

My biggest concern is that black buildings back posted by Tim above your post. it would look pretty fugly and dark if they just paint the sucker black to cover the scars. Looks like there used to be windows there and was covered over when the previous building was there. Could the owners of that black building open it up and restore those windows if in fact those windows are there?? It would make their building more attractive for the tenants by doing so.

There were never windows there, the former Drake Hotel was the first building and later came the Franklin National Bank building against it with only windows on the upper half.

Yeah indeed I hope so. And not by hanging a giant advertisement billboard on it, it's not Times Square.

I wish they would have moved the tower further north against the 57th street side, kept the facades of the former smaller buildings and integrated them into the tower´s base. Have kept the entire Drake Hotel, and converted a part of it, as a grand lobby for the residents, and the rest to a deparment store, with the higher floors housing technical equipment for the tower. But meh.

Outer columns being poured, the forms may jump tomorrow if we're lucky.

Why not? They are already pouring. That generally lasts three days (outer columns, core, and then floors) and then they jump.

What do you see holding this up?

The square footage of that area is part of the allotment for building the tower so tall. They can't just build an additional tower where the glass retail space is planned to go while also building a 1400 foot tower.

The elevators we see on this cam look like they only serve the basement. They don't look properly positioned to serve the rest of the building as it grows.

So where are the elevators for the workers to go up the tower. In the not too distant future it will be quite a hike to get up to the new workfloors.
