Yes, there are about 5 new crane sections ready to be installed.

Those spaces have two purposes:

1) They will host the mechanical equipment for the tower (inside the drums)

2) They are "empty" in order to reduce the wind load over the facade of the building.

Except for that small part about how discussing opinions is the lifeblood of this web site. And how the ideal in architecture to stir the hearts of those experiencing the structure. But, yeah, other than that it doesn't matter.

And btw, it is being built by people that know much more about what billionaires want and what they don't want...

Remember guys, the guy that is building this knows what he is doing and what people want regardless of what anyone on this forum thinks. After all, he didn't get wealthy by making bad decisions...
Agreed and all well and good, but I don't think anyone is saying the building will be a failure. On the contrary the design (or rather, the lack of over-designing) does well to maximize internal space. For those inside the building it may well prove immensely superior. I've no doubt this will make the developer tons of money, so good for him.

The criticism I'm seeing and offering is the robotic manifest of that business ethos. In other words, they've maximzed ROI of the internal space without much/any regard for the exterior appeal. Much like many box-scrapers they've achieved the mechanical purity of function-based form without the excess of craft we call architecture. To wit:

If I had the money, I would put 10 of these up in 10 different cities nationwide.
Pardon me while I shudder at this thought. There's a reason most skyscrapers are not pure boxes. Such devotion to cold efficiency removes humanity from the equation. "We are the Borg. Resistence is futile."

- - - -

I think this is a large-scale case of people having to agree to disagree, and there's nothing wrong with that. The building will succeed and make it's mark, regardless, with reviews that will hit equal parts "Outstanding," "Ugh," and "Which building and why should I care?!" I don't mind that some love it and certainly don't wish to knock it over or anything. We just all need to accept that as sure as it will garner attention it will also garner opinions. Opinions that will surely defy consensus. After all, we're only human.

Cheers.

Damn that post was so good that simple "like" isn't enough to express it. Seriously I wish there was more open minded people like you. And I'm saying this even though I don't agree that this tower lacks any architectural element - I think it's well thought. Minimalistically but still well thought. I'm just sick that no matter where you go at ssc you simply don't have the right to express any opinion different than exaggerated optimism because if you do there is high chance angry hordes of local fanboys will leave nothing of you.

counting from the top, which floor / window represents the penthouse in those renders?

The rebar prevents the concrete from cracking by increasing its elasticity, and the sway will be mitigated by a mass damper.
Elasticity isn't increased. Instead, steel is providing the tensile strength because concrete has excellent compressive strength but little tensile strength. The. Leeward side of the building experiences a compressive load and concrete is well suited to that. However the windward side of the building would be pulled apart without rebar.

Unreal. Another day gone by and NOTHING is jumped - not the core, not the cranes.

Ugggh, they seem to be taking their sweet time.

I agree with that, and I guess my comment could be taken the wrong way. I don't mean to come off that I think all skyscrapers should be boxes. Actually that is far from what my opinion is. My favorite place on earth is Dubai. Why? Because I look at skyscrapers like I look at people and everything in Dubai is very different then the one next one to it and they all have unique shapes and sizes. I would never want everybody to look the same, nor would I want all skyscrapers to look the same. I like a lot of character and thought put into the design of a skyscraper. Honestly there isn't any skyscraper that i can think of that I dislike on the entire planet. I am able to look at every skyscraper in a very different way then the next one. I like 432 because of it's white concrete, it's size, and it's shape. Where else on the planet is there a skyscraper that is this tall and slender and in the beautiful color of white. I look at 432 and think, how is this possible? It's unique in it's own way which is why I like it. I look at a round skyscraper in Dubai and think, holy shit, that is pretty damn cool.

What, you are right. Why now, it's 18:30. Bastards, aren't we allowed to watch.

Why aren't you allowed to watch the action.

Good news on the core but this is more and more bizarre. They now have higher sections of column rebar in place but still now floor decking placed for the floor below.

They are doing things right now in a radically different sequence.

buildings as tall as this will disfigure the city and its scale.
