If I counted right, the building will have 93 of those rows of squares (85 normal height floors and four double height floors). If they now complete the 10th row (8th floor), that would mean that the final building will be more than nine times as tall. That is quite amazing. I watch the Park Avenue cam and try to imagine how far the final building would reach out of my notebook display.

Pouring that 56th grade floor

And exactly one month ago, 26 march, when they started it.

The formwork raised 4 rows.

I don't post often, but I haven't seen this mentioned yet. (I could be wrong) The mystery of why the crane towers are skewed is evident in these pics. By skewing them slightly, the crane supports cleverly go through the openings so they can bolt to the floor and not the face of the building.

Ok I knew it was bolted to the floors, but now that is skewed to do so, couldn't it stand a few meters to the right?

No. I don't believe they've done any pouring of it since they last lifted it.

Also, they will probably want to pour the new floor before another lift. You can't have the concrete hose too far above the floor that you are pouring.

Maybe it will be lifted the middle of next week.

I believe those black arms are adjustable so they can fit every situation on the site. With fixed arms they would be very limited.

Just back from around the corner visiting the site ... It's crazy-busy with activity (and LOUD!!), as a constant parade of cement trucks sat idling on 56th at Madison Avenue waiting to enter the gate to the actual site. Funny how all the construction workers are well aware that all us skyscraper geeks are watching their every move!

Interesting to note that after over a year of chatting-up these guys, their opinions on 432's appeal have evolved. Initially, most of 'em didn't care for the 'box', now as it steadily creeps higher into the skyline, the guys are all so proud of what they're building ... they literally were beaming today as we discussed the building's future dominance and its all-too-apparent present charms. Or maybe it was just due to this glorious sunshiny-day...

I took a few shots on my iPhone; I'll post them tonight.

Can someone explain how the new elevator being constructed on the 56th Street side will work? Will it rise with the tower, or is it meant just for the basement?

I don't get why it appears to have two floors built into it? If it is meant to go from ground level to any floor they need an open shaft - not floors blocking movement.

I just don't get what is going on with that.

The two elevators are on the left (and now service only the basement levels) ... they are currently constructing the materials platform for loading/unloading to the right of the elevators. Both presumably will rise to the top just behind and underneath the climbing formwork.

De nada, Dbronx! Cheers.

The the elevators on the left will go all the way to the top and the "unloading" platforms on the right will also go all the way to the top??

That seems really inefficient. Why don't they just have the elevators face the structure like they do in other projects so that no special platforms are needed??

What you say seems plausible, but definitely strange and inefficient.

I think they have the elevators attached to the small temporary platforms so they can stage some materials on these platforms without using the space inside the building.

This. I agree, tim. That seems a logical reason for the material scaffolding. Viewing the site in person one can't help but notice its spacial limits - indeed it's an extremely confined space. And yet, still this tower seems massive!

Anywhooo, as promised, my iphone shots from my lunchtime stroll today ...
