Ugly is just a matter of (lack of) taste.

I am very confidant that this will not look cheap or crappy. Its basic design is also its strength.

The Empire State Building looks more beautiful and elegant than that glass and concrete box. Tell me how that is a lack of taste.

If there is one city in the world which can absorb superskyscrapers, then it's New York!
I think maybe some people are not happy with the idea of ESB no longer the prominent point of the Midtown skyline, but that was bound to happen sooner or later

To my mind, the very best thing of this supertall is its simplicity.

at first i also thought that this building will overtake ESB in it's dominance, but at least ESB would still dominate the skyline from top of the rock, 432park is far behind on the north side. As for the building it self, its actually really special because it's very thin, & even if it's not fully cladded, the height makes it look quite futuristic

You can indeed sometimes see my self-built city, then you know what I did for a taste. Anyway, this building is much too thin.

I absolutely love 432 Park Avenue! OH MY GOD it's so beautiful, elegant, flawless, can't put that into proper words! Just wow. I'm so buying a ticket to New York if this is finished and I absolutely cannot comprehend how this is disliked so much!

Can people please stop having a go at people who say they don't like this building and vise versa?
Let them have there opinion... I visit this thread to see updates on the construction from people and not people ranting on at each other...

But anyway, I've asked my girlfriend if she can get some pictures of this later this week when she's in New York, so I'll share them on here once i get them

this is what I was talking about...clearly seen here is this photo on YIMBY:

The same was said for the original World Trade Center towers...

The same was said for the original World Trade Center towers... I beleive worse was said lol! However, New Yorkers and the rest of the country/world came to love those towers. Maybe it was their replacement of the Empire State Building for the final scene in the remake of King Kong that did it --- I still will not watch the final scene where the gorilla is machine gunned to death by helicopters on the roof, but I digress.

We will grow to love this tower as well. My first impression when I saw it was what is this? But the simplification of the design and facade makes it interesting and has grown on me. I am sure there will be many other towers even more unique and taller than this one. New York is not afraid to change and reinvent themselves. Enjoy it!

New York's tallest building draws Chinese buyers
Developers bank on Chinese interest in 432 Park Avenue, which takes luxury living to new heights

http://www.scmp.com/property/interna...chinese-buyers

Quote:
Apartments in a tower being built on New York's Park Avenue are likely to appeal to wealthy Chinese investors, who rank second among all overseas buyers of American properties
Quote:
About 40 apartments in the building have so far been sold to foreigners, including buyers from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Russia," said Richard Wallgren, vice-president of sales for Macklowe Properties
Quote:
More than two-thirds of the contracts at 432 Park Avenue - at the site of the former Drake Hotel - have been signed by US-based buyers.

Wallgren said most of the buyers intended to live in the apartments rather keep them as an investment.

That's good news. Let's hope it'll be true.

From 30 Rock, the cranes already can be seen.

The pictures are from july 4-5. Today, the cranes are higher, and I think that it is possible that already the top of the core is visible from the 30Rock observatory, if not already, it will be very soon.

When finished, the building will go all the way to the upper frame of this picture, it may even go out of the frame.

A zoom of the last picture. Coul it be that red thing just right of the Sony building is the concrete pump?

That must be the concrete pump. I guess the core is just out of sight, but it may appear after 1 more jump.

Went by the site this afternoon, and the building is HUGE! Looked like they were putting in perimeter rebar. Two guys from the site were getting ticked because they couldn't get a supply truck into the site.
