You know, there is the saying,"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" So why, oh why, was the 56 Street cam moved?? The previous view was just fine!!

The Park Avenue cam is back online, but aimed too low.

The Park avenue cam has been repositioned, with a similar view it had prior to its going offline.

That's too d*** funny.
All thats necessary is that people know what building is being referred to. If the address doesnt need to be known, why waste time looking for it? Nothing really funny about that.

Since I clearly have too much time on my hands, I did a little photo analysis to try to get a handle on where 432 is relative to the famous 'black building' - here's what I came up with:

First, I used a shot I took a couple weeks ago to see where the Franklin building lines up with 432. From this pic, you can see that the south edge of the Franklin building lines up just about exactly with the northern edge of the southern-most column of window openings:

Using that as a guide, I drew some perspective lines on a webcam screenshot from this morning - the red lines show where the plane of the south-facing wall of the Franklin building would hit the east-facing wall of 432:

Based on this, I would say that the outer walls of 432 still have about 2-3 levels to go above the tip of the highest rebar before they rise above the Franklin's roof....The core, though, is harder to figure out.

BUT...:

From my apartment on 1st Ave, I'm 99% sure that as of today I can glimpse a tiny corner of the core just barely peaking above the Franklin building's roof for the first time!:

Haha nice research!

Core is definitely above Franklin National.

I kind of like this black building. Too bad about the blind wall that is left after the demolition of this site's previous structures.

"The black building" and the white wedding-cake building on the other side of 432 (not visible in any of the pics on this page) are both attractive, elegant buildings. We'll see if 432 can live up to their example.

Even if I knew the name, I wouldn't refer to it by name most of the time. That would just hinder communication with others. In the context of this thread, referring to it as the "black building" is usually the most effective way of communicating.

At times the name is useful. But in order to avoid confusion, it should also be accompanied by the phrase, "black building"... So no, it isn't laziness but rather knowing one's audience.

On a separate topic:

Is anyone else greatly anticipating the protective film being removed from windows? I am eager to see how the facade looks once many adjacent windows are uncovered. The inset gap between the glass and concrete is going to give it an interesting sense of depth.

Assuming this goes up one floor per week, it'll take another 250 days until it surpasses the Chrysler Building.

Yeah, the ethnicity isn't as prevalent up North, so it's cool to have a diverse neighborhood.

I'm pretty sure that would be at 3:07 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. As for the date, I don't know that, but should be some day next year.

In the picture of NYCD, the top of the climbing system was about even with our "Black Building", but that picture was taken hours before the last core jump, so, by now it has to be a little taller, and what you see is effectively the top of the climbing system.

Pretty cool you have that view, with the next core jump, you will be able to clearly see the climbing system. (and remember to bring the pictures here)

I only remember referring to it as the Franklin National Bank Building, I guess most people who visit often in this thread know what it means, also with just ''black neighbour'' But that's mostly hystory now, we are looking for higher competitors from now on.

Good for it! I just wanted to add a little levity but this is even better!

Construction progress seems to be moving along quickly. Outer forms raised already, floor slab is poured and it's only the beginning of the day.

My opinion on this concrete monster:

this is too high a building that will be in the heart of New York City ranked as the pin!
