I assume that everyone who hates 432 Park must really hate the Aon tower in Chicago and wish that it were torn down.

The same holds true for Tower 42 in London

LOL, I love both of them. In fact, I think the Aon Center is the second most beautiful structure in the world (second only to the Willis Tower)

I agree with Robert,

People aren't giving this tower a chance at all.. I love the AON center,, old twins etc.

I'm GLAD it's a box. NY has enough non boxes going up.

I love AON center, reminds me of the WTC. Ancient architecture, tall and in Chicago.

Taken from the webcam today. What are the structures on the bottom in the far right?
They will probably build the foundations on top of these?

actually new york city has lots of unique buildings and making even more unique buildings will end up making manhatten look like a cluster****. everyone should enjoy boxy towers that are just an addition to the overall height of the city.

Yeah i stated that before but you worded it a lot better You need simple towers and unique towers to even it out.

Not yet. They're doing prep though. In a few months, I believe it'll be under construction.

this building has nothing in common with what they are proposing to build. This one is thicker and have unobstructed view. The one they are trying to do will be tucked away inside the block and outside on the corner this shiny new glass cube suppose to make us all complacent about what they are doing. It is not too late to selvage this project by changing the ending of the tower a bit to make it look a bit less dull.

I have to say that I really love the known design, it's pure verticality, simplicity and profitability, that's what New York is. I hope that's the final design, with good facade materials it will look impressive.

Man, the Aon center is one of the most well-designed buildings of all time. It's so beautifully simple, so elegant. The shear size just works perfectly as well! I think this building will go interestingly. I don't see why people are complaining, it's not going to have an enormous impact on the skyline, just a random line jumping out of the skyline pretty much.

Plus, I ask everyone to remember, THIS IS ON PARK AVENUE! If you haven't been to New York, or if you're not familiar with Park Avenue (I walk across it everyday to get to Central Park), every building is pretty much an old WWII era luxury building. I'm sorry but putting the Beekman here, or any tower that liberally designed would ruin the area. I think a box goes perfect, every building there is a box, and nothing should stick out of Park Avenue like a soar thumb. You have to respect Park Avenue, it's one of the most beautiful streets on EARTH! Putting a non-boxy building would be like putting the Willis Tower or Aon Center in Washington DC.

I actually have to agree with that. Can you imagine something like One57 on Park Avenue? I can't.

The best would have been to keep the beautiful historical buildings like The Drake and the rowhouses that stood there before, which suited Park Ave way better than this humongous box. Shame on NYC for having the ignorance to allow such demolitions of true gems in sensitive areas like this. Such an action would be considered inexcusable in pretty much any European city.

And please don't tell me Manhattan couldn't develop elseway. There are enough eyesores or even pretty much empty plots where such things could be pulled up. But yeah, that's not the way things are going ahead there, I know. It's all about the money.

I totally agree. I was arguing on SSP until I almost got banned by all these crazy guys who just love anything that goes high. But Drake is gone man. Sadly bu we have to go forward and my understanding is that in order to fix what we have here they have to add a nice spire to it. not just a regular thin box, but something like that plus the ending of Chrysler building for example. It will change the look dramatically.

Lets not forget, there are tons of similar buildings anyways.... losing a few won't make a big difference.

+1000

The Drake was a beautiful hotel that deserved a renovation while this new tower could have been built close by. There's always room enough for the best of the old as well as the new.

"Development" in NY is controlled by many greedy pigs who care only about their profits.
