I think this building will look best at night. The big windows will shine.

It's certainly an issue for very tall buildings. For every time a structure's height doubles, the wind force on the top is quadrupled.

So 432 Park will have a damper similar to the Taipei 101? Or a hat truss like the old Twin Towers? I haven't been following the construction too carefully, but this is going to be an impressive tower. For one, it's similar to the Twins in that it's not tapered and is the same dimensions all the way up, and has a flat roof, which makes for a visually and actual taller structure.

I'm wondering, is the external structure masonry combined with steel? Just curious as to how this tower compares with other well-known NYC towers..Does it get its strength from a rigid outer shell, kind of like the Twin Towers did?

Yes, Taipei 101 has a tuned mass damper from floors 85 to 91.

And yes, you'll see perimeter rebar (24 areas per floor if I'm not mistaken). The concrete alone is 14,000 p.s.i., but when combined with rebar (especially a lot like this has), the strength is over tenfold the plain concrete strength, putting it at around 150,000 p.s.i. For example, steel skeletons typically max out at 100,000 p.s.i. (probably around what 1WTC's is), but when concrete and rebar are combined, they can actually beat out an I-beam steel skeleton frame.

This building will get its strenght by both a rigid outer shell, like the twins, but also by a rigid, strong core, with both working together.
As a matter of fact, we can see that right now they are working on a special piece of the structure which is that kind of truss or reinforcement, strongly connecting the core and the outer wall. This building is made up of six sections, they are doing this first reinforcement at the top of the second section, so my guess is it would have two more of these, one at the top of the fourth section, and another near the top.

I am not sure if it will have a damper, I think it has been mentioned that it will, but I am not sure if it was in this building or in another one.

Yes! The 59th street camera is on a wide shot. I hope they leave it that way.

Haven't looked at the live cams at night in a while, so this is the first time I've noticed flashing lights on top of the cranes Look near the crown of the AT&T building). Ever more important as it climbs:

I'm excited about this tower & fascinated by it. It's going to be unique, I'll say that for it. It will not only be the tallest residential structure in this hemisphere, and tallest by roof height in NYC, it will be quite a curiosity! Since it won't be accessible to the general public, it will probably be even more curious to people. I think most in the general public are going to be quite startled when they look up about this time next year and see this tower soaring in the sky, I don't think many are even aware of it's eventual height or even existence yet!

I personally like the concrete rigid outer structure, it gives its otherwise slim appearance a bit of substance & it clearly will be be extremely strong. I am not a big fan of the prism glass towers we have seen in some places, so this one will be a cool change. It's slim, and VERY tall, but it still has a strong look to it because of the concrete shell.

I also like that it has a solid flat roof, and won't rely on a superficial spire to give it it's true height. Nothing against spires. It's just cool to see a new square, non-tapering tower rising. I like the fact that it's the same dimensions all the way to the top, that always seems to make a tower look taller in my opinion.

Wish it was a bit more utilitarian than simply housing billionaires, but oh well.

It's also expected to be the tallest residential tower on the planet for a short time before World One overtakes it.
