I am not expert on that, so I don't know if there's something better, but I've used this with good results.

Now, everyone, I've been trying to determine the visibility of the tower in the skyline for quite some time now. And I've NEVER seen this building or any one of its cranes from the skyline, obviously.

I'm guessing that after ten floors have been built, the core will be visible in the skyline (because the core is ahead of the facade about 2 or 3 floors). But in order for you to see it from the skyline, you'd either need very strong eyes or binoculars.

So, I think it'd be a good 15 floors until you can see it from the skyline without straining your eyes or searching for it too much. Let's say it takes about 4 days to complete a floor/core jump. 15 times 3 equals 45 days. So it'll be December before I can see this building from my house. That's actually not that far, considering that it's going to be completed in 2015.

I have to disappoint you but in 45 days it won't be 15 floors higher. I even doubt if they will make that before the end of the year.

No it'll only have about 20 metres of tower.. It'll climb with the building.

Redefining the Manhattan skyline one floor at a time. Although I find the design dull in its simplicity, I appreciate this structure for its slender dominance and height.

The turntable for the crane is sitting on flatbed a block away this morning. Bay Crane mobile is on site for assembly so this will be going up tomorrow morning I am guessing as the city likes them to do crane assembly on the weekends
Crane is a Potain from Rogers & Sons

Do you know what will happen to the current white cranes?

Has anyone noticed what appears to be a "crane pad" on the 56th street cam? They were pouring it late yesterday afternoon. It's situated directly in front of of the base of the white crane, immediately adjacent to the protective scaffolding for the 56th street sidewalk.

The consensus is that this new crane will go on top of the core...that new pour you saw in the foreground is part of the electrical transformer vault

It sits between the current crane and the sidewalk on 56
56 st cam is not working at this moment

they are pouring perimeter columns now

How are they getting the concrete to the top to pour? Do they pump it up from ground level premixed? Do they bring the dry concrete up by the external elevators, pump the water up separately and mix it at the top? Are the cranes involved in bringing up concrete? If they pump it up, are there multiple pumps involved, such as one pump every five floors?

Thanks,
Bugs
