If your eyes were at the listed top of this building (1396 feet, according to the building website), you would be able to see the horizon 45.8 miles away on a clear day. Tall buildings, hills and mountains could be visible even farther away.

I used this simple calculator:

http://www.ringbell.co.uk/info/hdist.htm

It assumes that the horizon is at sea level and that the earth is perfectly spherical (not the geoid it actually is), but the result is still interesting.

Interesting. That sounds about right considering BK is ~90 miles.

Looks like workers are taking a lunch break.

A lot of activity on the ground as mobile crane is holding jib parts while the are assembled...it is laid out in a line on what would normally be the sidewalk
inside the site...wish i could get out for a walk by... 56 st is not blocked traffic still going by

Mobile crane has moved closer to park...unloading another flat bed with another section of the jib
looks like this is the last section of the jib as last 1/2 of the section is red and probably connects to the turntable
I can just barely see the other end which looks to be the tip of the jib...hard to tell though
tip is to the west base to the east

Well I guess if i had to be behind a desk on a Saturday, I suppose, I would want it to be yours. Hopefully you have a great, live view of the work site. In that case, carry on

Sorry, if this was answered before but:

1) why are they doing this? Is it that the cranes as they are can't climb up to the height of this structure (I always assumed there was a limit how high they could go)?

2) will this one crane replace BOTH external cranes?

3) Won't this crane interfere with the pouring of the floors?

I'm making a time lapse video of the earth cam views. I just wish this thread had more archived screen shots, but I'm past that now. I will post preview soon!

I had many screenshots from the cams but I had to delete about all of them, otherwise I could have made a cool timelapse.
