Thanks. You can also follow the process via the webcams, although they are further away.

I wonder why there's scaffolding on the tower in the foreground? Are they painting over that brick wall?

Maybe it's just the perspective, but this Potain crane, especially its jib/boom, looks so tiny compared to the two Favcos!

No, not finished yet. Need to install counter weights. Looks like a Potain MR415/405. And there's no jumping cage so it'll jump internally off the trailing floors. Floor cycle will be affected as boxing out crane and reworks required.

You can have your own it in your room, a model, that's it.

looks like the new crane has turned around so that the counter weights can be put into place?
Maybe we can see a core rise today? seeing as how work is progressing?

Elton John wrote a song about it.

Managed to get a few of the crane sections on the ground last week during YIMBY's usual update.

I visited the site on Saturday, just as the boom for the Potain was being delivered. This crane does not use an external climbing frame that the two Favco cranes utilize. What will happen, is that the smaller Potain luffing crane will replace the current Favco M760D crane that is on 56 Street. That crane should have been replaced earlier in the project, but there were issues with getting the new crane permitted for operation. The current M760D crane is a heavy crane, that imposes stresses on the tower. I understand that It will be dismantled this week.

The smaller M220D crane on the 57 Street side will remain to a building height of approximately 1000 feet (304.8 meters) before being removed.

Up top on the core, a knuckle-boom crane will be installed alongside the CPB (concrete placing boom) for handling rebar.

I agree that the Favco's are the highest performing tower cranes, but the potain is a good machine.

They are not lifting anything heavier than a concrete bucket here. So this 415 is appropriate. Most of the examples you use are steel buildings. Burj Khalifa didnt have any favco's.

the 760 is super-overkill for this building. The reason it is here is because NYCrane didnt have anything else available.

They need to watch their back though, Liebherr just released a new heavy lift luffing tower crane.

and for what its worth, the Link Belt TG's are still the best tower cranes.

It did have actually Let me look up on this what models those were exactly. But I'm 99% positive it used up to three favco's on the core at some point.
