Thanks Kanto. I'll make sure to add on to that in the future when I give updates.

In the meantime, the 53rd Street cam is shaking pretty violently. On the 56th Street side, you can see a concrete truck on site, so a pour is probably occuring right now. External elevators in action right now as well.

I wonder why are they putting glass up so randomly?

Most of the rebar assemblies are now being lifted directly of trucks on 57 Street right to the top...56 st is seeing three main activities: concrete deliveries, interior fitting deliveries (mostly utility hardware and windows)
and unloading and fitting of heavy steel for 56/park retail building...as I said above this building will NOT be an all glass cube like the apple store...the apple store has nothing but glass above grade...here we have significant steel rising above grade...so clearly this store will be an above grade structure...it may have an all glass facade as some of the rendering will show but will be a significantly different type of structure from what was done at the GM building.

Two important milestones in the near future will be when this passes the 215 meter mark bring it above the plane of the GM Building and over the halfway mark....and then again when it reaches supertall status at 300 meters...once that happens it will really begin to dominate not only east midtown but will really be establishing it's presence over the whole Manhattan skyline...

There are only 35 floors

The attachments for the 57th crane are every 6 or so rows and the attachments for the 56th crane are every 3 or 4 rows.

It only grew one floor since I posted this.

If you are counting the core as well, there would only be 37 floors

so up to the core it would be 556 feet

Here's how I calculated that: there are 89 floors, but the first 4 are double height, so I added 4 to get 93 rows. Then I divided 37 by 93 and multiplied by 1398 feet to get 556 feet

But what about this interview with Harry Macklowe that was posted earlier in this thread? But it is indeed possible that Harry could be wrong, so I'm gonna trust your calculations more than him. As I said recently in the Lotte Seoul thread, developers do sometimes have the wrong height, especially when it is just a temporary work in progress height

So, you say that the perimeter is currently 34 apparent floors tall, which means that the top of the core forms is 37 apparent floors tall right now, am I right?

Edit, so since it grew the top of the core forms should be 38 apparent floors since the core above the top perimeter structure has 1 exposed floor and 2 floors hidden behind the climbing form. Thank you for correcting me, I'll correct my diagram back to the 38 AF figure

Quote:
so up to the core it would be 556 feet
But I count the 2 floor high climbing core form system too so right now, it should be 589 feet now because 38 x 15,5 = 589

But more floors could be double height, for example the drum mech floors or the top floors. There could be a parapet that hides mech equipment. Indeed from the renders it looks like there is 1 row of windows which is a parapet. I calculated the 589 feet out of a plan I have which shows that each apparent floor has 15,5 feet. Here is the plan:

Btw, the core forms are 2 floors high, not just 1 floor

Up to the perimeter, it currently has 35 "rows" (but 31 floors because of double height), and counting the core and the form (3 floors) makes 38, so you are right about the floors.

Each level is 15.5'...so double heights are 31'

A quick conversion from the feet figure puts this at 179.55, or 180 metres, which is exactly where the SSP diagrams I had been using put the floor we're currently on. Glad we could clear up the confusion.

Hey folks, I made a world construction progress diagram update. Here you can see how the building currently looks compared to the global scene. Just so you know, the height was estabilished to be 38 apparent floors, which is 180 meters or 589 feet

Yay, we're beating World One in Mumbai by 5 metres now! They had overtaken us last month, but good to see this is back on track to beat it.

Is it just me or has work on this dramatically slowed in the past month or so. They were doing floors in 5 or 6 days before and now it seems like a week and half or more between floor jumps.

Also, they seem to work many fewer hours (understandable due to the lack of daylight) and they have stopped doing significant work on weekends.

Definitely makes it less fun to watch this.

Who knows, maybe in a decade their roles will swap. It is impossible to predict what the future holds. I bet that in the 90s nobody would have predicted such a huge boom in China, just as I bet that in the 1920s nobody predicted such a huge NYC boom as there was in the 30s
