Inside Macklowe’s 432 Park Avenue: VIDEO
http://therealdeal.com/blog/2013/11/...-avenue-video/
The New York skyline, Ayn Rand famously stated, is “the will of man made visible.” Harry Macklowe’s 432 Park Avenue – slated to be the tallest in the Western hemisphere, when complete, in 2015 – is excellent supporting evidence for Rand’s claim.

There are a million better people you can quote than Ayn Rand.

Looking at that first photo, does anyone else notice how the back of the red crane is bent over the boom and hanging down? Is it supposed to do that, because I've never noticed that.

If you referring to the counterweight, yes, it hangs at the rear of the crane, as you can see in the picture of this model I posted when they installed it.
Notice that it also moves a bit forwards or backwards as the boom is inclined or not. When the boom is up, the counterweight moves inwards and when the boom is extended, the counterweight moves outwards, so it counters the weight better.

Why would they make it out of concrete though? Could have used steel or something

And can somebody explain what are the seven resdential buildings going in front of central park I know some of them are
432 Park Avenue
217 West 57 Street
111 West 57 Street
Tower Verre
One57
what are the other two, because I see it in this news article http://www.marketplace.org/topics/we...s-central-park on SkyscraperpPage 217 west 57th st thread stating "Seven new buildings are going up in Midtown Manhattan. Many of these luxury towers will be within just blocks of Central Park. And that proximity has some area residents concerned about the buildings' impact on the open space and light in the park."

The other two are 220 Central Park South and 45 East 60th street. I'm not sure how the latter and Tower Verre will cast any overwhelming shadow over Central Park tho, just NIMBYs being NIMBYs.

Thank you for that information, but those two towers are probably not even going to reach 1,000 ft, well that's just the research I did.

Tons of activity on site today, was not sure they would be working today but glad to see progress.

Concrete trucks have been going since early this morning and new re-bar is going up for the next level. As well more steel on the base has went up.

Overall productive day so far
