Anyhow, a few guys are on site right now unloading materials from a truck on site, but other than them there doesn't appear to be anyone else on site.

The core is on level 44 (682') and the perimeter on level 42 (635') iirc.

This is actually not huge, it's just tall. One WTC is huge.

I think it will attract attention from tourists. In fact I think it will become a NYC icon. Not everything has to have loads of ornaments on it to be iconic.

432 Park Avenue will never become an icon. The name itself is what prevents the tower from becoming iconic in the first place.

Typically residential towers ever become icons. There's nothing but its height that could ever make it an icon.

Over here I think people don't even know about the Chrysler Building. (And by that I mean the average person.) I would say the two icons that pretty much anyone would know are the ESB and the Statue of Liberty. I'm quite sure most would be surprised that there is a new WTC standing already.

So yeah... 432 Park as an icon, I don't see it.

While it is true to say that the Chrysler building does not register on the same scale as the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty, it is still one of the most recognizable buildings on earth. "Immortalized" in Legos in toys r us Times Square as well as featured in 3d puzzle sets and starring in movies such as Godzilla 2000... The Chrysler building is certainly iconic. That said, 432 park avenue will surely be featured in the skyline of countless movies to come... Along with all the countless other super tall structures set to rise around midtown.

If I made it seem like I think otherwise I apologize, I definitely agree with the statement. And yea, 432 Park is definitely gonna stand out from the Midtown skyline so I'm sure some people will be interested to know what "that tall thin building" is.

I do agree with you arsaHun.. obviously this is an interesting building in that it is extremely tall; however it is lacking anything even remotely ornate that will distinguish it in the skyline... Ie: a spire, tapering top or a crown of some sort that is seen on practically every truly iconic structure.

I think you're about 15' short on the perimeter figure.

IMO, I think 432 Park Ave is going to be an accomplishment for only skyscraper junkies like others on this forum and I. Honestly, I think it'll make a great addition to the skyline and people are definetly going to know what it is but it's not going to be as popular as 1 WTC or ESB. IMO, to make it even more popular give the building a name rather than an address. Buildings that have names tend to be more popular. Plus even if it does become a little more famous than we expect in the coming years it'll be overshadowed by the Nordstrom Tower, Hudson Yards, and all the other buildings planned in Midtown. Now that I think about all the buildings that are proposed and under construction I guess we could say that NYC is going through a skyscraper boom compared to past decades.

432 Park Avenue will definitely stand out once it is completed. However, if nearby skyscrapers being built in midtown becomes completed, then this building will no longer be dominating. Similar to 1 WTC: when 2/3 WTC gets built, it will not stand out as much as before.

This is not a commentary on its design, rather on what makes buildings iconic: I think it will be noticeable to the average person but not iconic. It takes more than height... it takes a recognizable shape as well. ESB and Chrysler are both very recognizable for their shape and ornamentation. Look at the TransAmerica Pyramid. It's only 800+ feet tall, but its shape is what makes it iconic. Same goes for St. Louis's Gateway Arch, Seattle Space Needle, Flatiron Building and many more.

Added a couple jumps to my animated gif...here the progress from July 26 thru Dec 21...

And here's a view of the top from my angle...as many others have mentioned, the concrete isn't looking exactly perfect (particularly on a cloudy or rainy day) - I hope the rumored post-construction scrubbing makes a difference:

Iconic, probably due it's location, and that the other supertalls will on the west side. There's nothing near it to compete. When approaching from the north and brooklyn it will be very dominate on the landscape. Also, most shots of Manhatten are from the north looking south.

Cleaning will make a difference, but I'm sure at least some dirt will show up again. That is probably anticipated.

Blocking a nice view

This turd is about to block my view of the Chrysler Building.

The other uninspired new tower just missed the ESB, but this one is right on the Chrysler :-(
