The ceilings aren't 15.5 feet, that's the distance between floors.

Hello guys, I'm new member however I have been visiting here over a year but just now decided to register. It's really great website.

The question:
I'm perplexed when it comes to stability of such building. I would love to know what can this scraper withstand. I think most of us would not consider it as "most stable skyscraper". Looks like maybe small aircraft could bring it down. So is it really on the verge of safety standards compliance? Thanks

I really wish the exterior of this building was much more architecturally attractive! It's just plain boring looking at it from the exterior, other than the fact it's so tall it's got nothing at all to make it an interesting building.

That's because it has nothing at all but purposeful luxury in it's design.
No extra decorations or curvy shapes at the expense of functionality. It's bauty is in it's perfect rationality. It's all about making that space work at it's best, at it's fullest potential, for the people who are going to live there and who will pay for the whole thing.

At least that is how I get it... And love it.

^That, and the perfect sleek grid facade being an architectural feature itself.

Wow it's been a long time since I last posted, and have to say what an amazing piece of engineering. This... this architectural marvel has really given me a 180° turn on how I perceive beautiful structures with minute details and uncanny proportions. Simple, yet so elegant. Bravo Viñoly, bravo.

regarding from last diagram , looks this tower more higher then WTC one. except for spire.
but how come WTC one totally floor =104 and this tower 89 floors..
maybe has anyone can explain about that. or because each floors has different height.??

Luxury apartments = high ceilings.

Hello Martins C Raper, and welcome to Skyscraper City.

I'm no expert but I know a thing or two about skyscrapers. In buildings like 432 Park Avenue the building is so tall and thin that building the requisite foundations for stability would be prohibitively expensive, therefore a revolutionary technique called anchilevering is used. In this construction method relatively shallow foundations are bolstered by being attached to huge anchors (which can way more than 100 tonnes) which weigh the building down and keep it steady even in the strongest of winds. I have included a diagram of the original design of the system from Foster + Partners which I think will help you to understand how the system works. I hope I have helped!

So the tower is now 259.8m or 852.5 feet tall!

Looks like the cameras are being readjusted to catch up with the height!

If it's 852.5 feet, then we've reached a momentous milestone.

This page explains a little:

http://www.skyscraper.org/EXHIBITION...turalengin.php

Quote:
As with most high-rise buildings, controlling the perceptibility of lateral motion building in high wind conditions is a key design focus. To that end, a series of openings through the structure were developed through wind-tunnel testing that improve the aerodynamics of the building. In addition, two tuned-mass dampers were designed to further reduce lateral accelerations to acceptable levels for the occupant's comfort.
