It could use a good cleaning without a doubt, but I've always liked it. It's just so odd, and the stilt base is really impressive from street level.

In the 70's everything was possible... Trips to the moon were an everyday thing... Even wearing seatbelts wasn't necessary.
Wild times...Yep. I lived through that decade for a whole couple of months.

Yeah, It's one of the icons of New York for sure.

How about 1-2 stories beneath the crowning wedge you introduced a recessed band, for depth and lighting. Then add a pair of vertical elements at the top of the slope, emphasizing the reach of that side? Or redo the wedge in glass (all or mostly) and light that up from within.

Maybe not lipstick, but cherry Chapstick and a little blush!

345m now. 432 PA is beginning to look freakishly tall.

This is a big issue for people who live in luxury high rise apartment buildings ... not just in NYC, but all over the world.

I remember reading about a major class-action court decision in NYC brought by residents of expensive Riverside Drive (in Manhattan's Upper West Side) apartments who were losing their views of the Hudson River due to new highrise construction (I think it was by Donald Trump no less, but I may be mistaken). Anyway, the judge admonished the residents that under no circumstances were they entitled to "a view" they've enjoyed for 20, 30, or 40 years. If the new taller buildings were legally within the zoning height they had no right to interfere with new buildings going up.

Yep, that CitiGroup building's base is quite interesting, but almost scary like Rainier Tower in Seattle. Both made me a tad uncomfortable to be next to in the street.

It's his signature.

This still hasn't started to look thin to me, and there are less than 100 metres left!

6th tallest place in the USA, (man-made structure), you could (if allowed, dangle youre toes over,, at this point in time...) and in 5 more feet, or roughly 2 meters, this will be 5th!!!!!

Aon, (chi), Trump Hotel (chi), ESB, (NY), Then 1WTC, WILL FALL,,,

THEN Fall short of Willis/Sears 53 feet/ 16 meters

Wow(!) this was new to me. And guess what, build in the 70's... (completion exact same year as Citigroup)

And a comment to the topic: Maybe because of the external elevator Park Ave doesn't look as thin from west & east sides...
