In case someone missed the One WTC thread... I just loved this picture, and it must be pretty fresh too.

rlw777, if that sort of design is appealing, then I must agree, it is done well. I'm just a big proponent of New York being "The" skyline of America. I'm fine with minimalist design, just don't do it on one of the tallest skyscrapers to ever be built in the city. Sigh. Each to his own....just disappointing to see such a towering structure look so...well, minimalist in design.
I have always thought that one of the things that makes the NYC skyline great is it's diversity. And it's not just that there are a lot of styles represented in the city but that they are often some of the best examples of those styles as well.

Are they planning on cladding the concrete with anything? This really doesn't look good in my opinion...

Couldn't agree more, but unfortunately it won't be cladded... maybe colored white at best...

New York is grown-up and mature. New York is practical, wild, but practical. New York is about making money, not spending it on vanity... At least in these modern tight times it is. Maybe it's just that New York is past that it doesn't need to prove anything to anyone anymore. New York knows its value and the investors know it too, so they invest only on quality, not kitsch...
Like 432 Park Avenue -> It's all about making as luxurious and habitable housings as possible (in New York) and make them as many on top of each other as possible(!)... And if it's the the view and space that people want that helps make the sales, then let's put their views across as much as possible and floors with as much space as the laws of physics give in !

And when you do something as good quality and features as possible ->it shows... And those features speak for themselves, with the beauty and look of quality. Adding something else would be out of place and would disrupt the calm perfection that is -in this case -432 Park Avenue.

That's the whole point of the project and the construction system. To let the structure be the facade... Let the function be the form.

It could be painted... like any other concrete building.

It's funny because a taking a handful of towers from the skyline would leave barely any impact in NYC while they would form the entire CBD of other cities.

I think it's also rather sad that people don't appreciate the elegant simplicity of the exposed concrete structure.

I think the simplicity would be accentuated with a waterproof bright white paint. That is what Vinoly must have been going for.
