I remember when 432 was still in its early rising stages and it was surpassing about 10 New York Buildings at the time. Ah, those were the days.

Also, ESB is 381 meters.

I remember everyone really started getting into it when they first began putting in the rebar about 5 floors below ground level. That's around the same time the Webcam came online. I used to watch this thing for hours.

Yeah for sure. I mean sure the developer or other companies can "make the sky pay", but I too think they're just ruining a masterpiece with all that comms equipment up there. Can't be it mounted elsewhere? But I suppose nothing else is that high, and aside from 1WTC, where else could it go? Any higher pieces of land outside NYC?

I would imagine I'm not alone in thinking that if I had enough money and the power to do so, that the ESB mast could be restored to it's former glory, money be darned.

But to be back on OT, wow 432's grown. It's amazing how quickly it's shot up, even for us who check the threads often.

I'm pretty sure all that crap was only added after the twins fell. There's reason to believe they'll take it back off once 1WTC is fully operational.

Now, I took some pics on my ride home today.

Here's a nice pair:

If the thin 432 Park Avenue can make such a mark on the skyline, imagine how much of a mark One Vanderbilt, Nordstrom, Steinway, and Hudson Yards will make!

Probably. 9/11 is also why an antenna was added to Conde Nast back in 2003. For 4 years it looked like this:

Am I the only one who sees an architectural representation of Oklahoma on its side?

Also, it will top out at the top of that photo.

Thanks to Sic'EmBears at skyscraperpage for providing the link to this webcam. If you click on "Panorama View" you can zoom in to an amazing view of midtown including 432 park, One57, Atelier II plus 30 Park Place and 56 Leonard up close in the foreground.

What the designers did was label every 12 feet of the mooring mast a floor. There are several utility floors inside it, but they technically aren't official since they aren't occupied.

There are also 2 additional utility floors above the 102nd floor. The 103rd floor has an outdoor balcony. It also was originally going to be a zeppelin port, but updrafts from the street canyons were so strong it kept the zeppelins from being able to dock on the first two trials. All hope of it becoming a port someday vanished 6 years later when the Hindenburg exploded (refer to my avatar). Since then zeppelins have become obsolete, making its original intent seem almost ancient. Above that floor is the 104th, which lies right beneath the dome.

It enhances the skyline so much from the East River/Roosevelt Island especially.

Sorry, but I had to see it this way. For me, this angle makes more impact.
