Yeah I know, but it's all vaguely related isn't it? Please don't close the topic.

But don't pop in if you're interested in only vaguely related discussions. Only real project-related discussions are allowed in the project forums and that's for a reason.

If you feel like discussing other issues, use other forums, such as Citytalk and Urban Issues or the local NYC Forum!
You can of course redirect the people there.

But project threads just get too messy. It's almost impossible to find relevant information in some threads. We'd need an army of moderators actually.

So I'm new to skyscrapercity, how do I get connected with people to be placed on bid lists for some of these amazing residential high-rise projects?

They do, but this one was probably not worth the effort.

This tower will be far better than any old building standing on that spot previously

Only if the worst buildings ever occupied the site. This proposal is cringe-worthy. But since we can't dictate aesthetics...

Looks like most of what was left of that structure in the middle came down today, and its down to the the last 4 floors or so of the building in the upper left corner on the cam. Aren't there a few more that still need to come down after that?

To me it looks as if there would already be steel beams on the site, though I have to wait for daylight to confirm or deny it

I have been reading this forum for a couple of months and decided to join in.
I walk by this site twice a day so will give my own impressions of progress.

Regarding the comments above...have you ever seen the incredible mansions that used to line the streets of midtown Manhattan....certainly someone could argue that these were grander buildings than the former Drake Hotel.
This is the nature of growth in New York City...There are still hundreds of grand townhouses and a few remaiming mansions lining the streets of the upper east and west sides and will more than likely be there beyond our lifetimes. One of the keys to this site is BEDROCK. If you look carefully at the camera shots for today they have moved the excavation ramp to the far right corner 56/park corner and are now drilling the bedrock in the immediate foreground for blasting...I have been walking by when blasts go off...pretty cool. the retaining walls on the park and 56 street and a joining 450 park are now complete so work is moving west...left on the webcam...that is why they have moved the ramp to the corner...to the right on the webcam. Note that three town houses on 57 street remain and look like they are not going anywhere...still actively occupied...one on the far left in the webcam and two to the right.

Yeah, I see it too.
The demolition is almost ready, and the excavator is still working with the drill.

I think you may be right. Preparations are well on their way so I expect to see the structure start rising soon
