It's probably been said a lot of times, so excuse my ignorance, but now that the highest apartment floor has been reached, what are the remaining floors for? Will they just house some mechanical stuff?

No but seriously, the top five floors of this building will be just one big empty room with a guy inside screaming HOLY SHIT THIS IS A TALL BUILDING OH MY GOD over and over, 24/7. It's a performance piece, tickets are $18.

I saw this from the top of the GE building last week - incredible structure - just looks so thin for its height..!

This must make it the second tallest in NY, after 1 WTC?

I created a graph, below, using the tallest American buildings constructed each year from 1900 to the already under construction buildings with a completion date in 2018 or lower. Easily visible in the graph, America is experiencing the third, and largest skyscraper boom in it's history. The boom is unprecedented in it's magnitude, surviving the recession, and constructing buildings of heights not seen in the country in decades. The World Trade Centre, 432 Park Avenue, 225W 57th Street, Salesforce, Hudson Yards, The Chicago Spire, and countless other proposals are good examples of the enormous boom occurring since around 2009. So, let's have a discussion about it! Why is the boom occurring now? What do these booms, like the early 1920s boom and early 1970s boom mean for the economy of America, and the engineering innovation of the country? Will this boom continue on, building taller than ever before? Or, will this boom fade away in the 2020s?

Funny, just to add more statistics, I'm doing my final project in Architecture, wich is going to be a residential super tall in Manhattan, this is something I've already done before starting to design the tower, residential or partly residential towers in New York since 1975 (there are very few before 1975):

larger, so you can read the name of the towers: http://i.imgur.com/Xj7DgdG.jpg

Off topic I know, but will Donald Trump be wanting to build any more towers any time soon? Seams strange with the current boom for him not to

Wow, amazing diagram! Perfectly illustrates the magnitude of the boom we're currently going through as well. Some heights are a bit off, e.g. 50 Leonard should be above 200 metres, but overall, great job!
