I can't wait to see all the abstract constructivist-style photos from the base once this is completed.

Because they're almost the same size at the base, could someone just for laughs Photoshop the top of the Chrysler on 432?

I wasn't sure if you meant putting the top of the Chrysler on top of the full height of 432 or to include the top towards the total height. So I did both.

With the Chrysler crown included into the total height:

With the Chrysler crown added in addition to the existing height:

Given how thin it is, would the core take up most of the internal space? I don't see this being particularly roomy.

It could have load-bearing walls the way the old World Trade Center did, but I don't know for sure. They would be able to use less core if that were the case.

Take a look at the penthouse floorplans to get a sense of it. It's 8255 square feet.

The tower definitely has load-bearing walls, that's actually part of the brilliance of the design -- the grid of interlocking reinforced concrete distributes the load throughout.

Also, they minimize the girth of the core by using a "scissor" stair configuration.

That's actually a lot more room than I thought it would have.

But one floor still isn't enough for the people on top of the world

How does a private elevator landing work anyway?

- Do you need to type in a code to make it stop?
- Do you need an elevator boy to recognize you?
- Do you swipe your key?
- Smartphone recognition?

(I guess I'm the only one here that has no experience with this hehehe)

I've only ever been in one building like this, but I believe in most cases you use your key or a code to go to the appropriate floor (and the doorman or a bellboy should recognize you and allow you onto the elevator)... and then you still need a key to enter the apartment proper. I really have no idea how apartments with elevator access directly into the units work.

Also, I believe the top few units are double-height... although it's never been clear to me whether they're actually duplex units or just simplexes with ultra high ceilings. Anyone know?

If I remember correctly the elevators all open inwards in the central core of this building and the doors in to each unit are flush with/set in to the outer central core walls, with 20 feet between that and the windows.

Actually, it could be all of the above. I have relatives that live in the penthouse of an upscale residential building in the West Palm Beach area of Florida, and they can either use a regular key, a keypad to punch in their secret code, or they have little key fob looking deals that the system recognizes when you enter the elevator, then push a button only for their floor level. I've heard that even going to a neighbors floor can be very difficult without giving out your secret code. Of course, the Doorman will recognize them and only if he has been given your name by a resident as a visitor, will he let you past the front door area. Then he will escort you to the elevator and send you to their floor.

floor access-
the concierge calls you when a visitor arrives, and you enter your code through the phone system to allow the elevator to stop at your floor

on the subject of elevators... TWO elevators for 90ish floors? They must be hoping for most of the residents to be part time.... I hate waiting on an elevator when I live, and we're only 16 floors...

That is a small number, but how many apartments will be in the building?

Are there any split-level penthouses in it?
