How is that differing or interesting? It's exactly the same negative points everyone (excepting us skyscraper aesthetics nerds) has made the 57th street supertalls

Differing as he actually gave reasons why he hates such tower. I don't hold the same beliefs or concur with most of what he says but he actually gives some reasonable arguments for it. And, interesting to me and to others who might actually appreciate it.

Sounds like he spent a lot of time at Occupy Wall Street. Well that is certainly his belief system and I get he hates everything about what this tower represents but he should understand NYC is for everyone. From the beginning of time, the rich and poor had been living side by side with each other learning to co exist. Today is no different and it will always will be the case...like forever.

Yesterday he most probably hated what One57 represents since it's the "OBT". (Original Billionaire Tower)

Today he hates everything what 432 Park represents and tomorrow decades away, he will feel the same way about the future tallest in the Western hemisphere, the Koch Tower towering supreme lording over all the supertalls near Central Park.

He doesn't have to even pick on the 432 Park, he could lower his sites and seeth his disgust towards 15 CPW & all the Robert A.M. Stern buildings for what they represent.

Anyway, He has the right to believe 432 is sticking its middle finger, just like I have the right to believe that this below is sticking its middle finger at me BIG TIME.

Well I hope if there is a "towering Koch tower", it's built over both the old bastards' graves.

It's incredible how quickly it has shot up. What a beast of a tower!

At the beginning it was quite slow for my feeling but then it was almost running up.

The modernist urban "renewal" housing complexes (aka the projects) of the mid 20th century are a big middle finger to everybody, including the poor bastards living in them.

But that would mean they'd spend eternity in Manhattan. Ick!

The taller this tower gets the more of a blight on the New York skyline it becomes! It is completely devoid of style and looks like it was built in the 40s. It's blank concrete walls with small inset windows, it belongs in a communist bloc country instead of New York City!

All this hatred for this tower might seem like déjà vu to some. Once upon a time...There was another project that rose in New York that dramatically altered the skyline. This project seemed to represent how times were changing and was a monstrosity that symbolized wealth, greed and power. This project was just as tall and dominating... And was a big tall rectangular tower. A lot of New Yorkers were not fans of this new structure. The tower(s) I am referring to? Why they were none other than the original WTC towers.

Yeah, and they continued to be ugly as sin right up until the moment they collapsed, ex post romanticizing being irrelevant.

(a repost from page 676, with better resolution)
Such a nice New York picture. Old and new(or future) classics side by side... Nice wallpaper...

And One Vanderbilt will also peek to the left of the Metlife building when it's built.

Much more than peek, really. At ~400 taller than Chrysler, and significantly closer and bulkier than 432 Park, it's going to dominate from that angle.
