It is more a needle than a box. The height over width ratio is over 10:1. Extremely slender.

It is slender, but that just makes it a very slender box. I think a needle really needs to taper at least a little.

Bruce is right, the Burj Khalifa or the Kingdom Tower are needles, not 432 Park, 432 Park is a box, and an awesome one I'd like to add

Bummer that the cam is down...they are pouring the main retaining wall along 56 Street...looks like they are about halfway along. Town houses are going down fast now...last two are almost gone...interesting to see the site open now to 57 street looking right across the block to the entrance of the Four Seasons. Site is now much more expansive after breaking through the 57 st facades

What will be the floor size of a floor in this tower? Like 50' by 50'? Or will it not be that thin?

Are you sure? I was under the impression it was about 32m x 32m, so that's 107' x 107'?

Robert, give us as much of details as you can..So footprint is 75' x 75', facade is glass and aluminium, right? What else you can tell?

Hmm... If the tower is indeed 75x75ft, that'd be like chopping off all the sections of the Willis Tower except for the middle one and throwing it right in the middle of NY. Just a fun fact

The tower will be 1,420 feet tall (432m), and its height to width ratio is 19:1.

So it's 22m each side? Obviously nobody else is gonna question you Robert so I just wanna make sure that's 100% correct and where you got that figure from, because nothing I've seen would lead me to believe it'll be quite that thin. More like between 30 & 36m. If you're sure then I'll bow to your greater knowledge of course.

If it will be 22m wide then it will be even thinner than what the SSP diagram shows I made a quick pic of how it will look like when viewed from a 90 degree angle towards it's width:

Yeah that was one of the things I was basing my thoughts on. Obviously the SSP diagram is not official, but it had to have been based on the renders we've seen and from that and everything else, as I said, I thought it'd be at least 30m per side. To me, that stick you've just drawn is even less appealing than the apparent thickness in the renders.

It's really weird because I used to and still kind of do love thin towers, but in this instance it does nothing for me.

This width reduction to 22 meters also means that it'll be the thinnest skyscraper in the world, beating with ease even the thin Dubai residential towers like Damac Heights or 23 Marina

Then, it will have very little useful floor area, because such a tall building needs wide columns, a fire protected core with a lot of elevators and escalators, plumbing and huge ventilation tubes. And all of that, in other buildings of that height, uses to occupy a floor area almost as big as the entire floor area of this building.
I guess the central core in this building might be around 10x10 metres (and it's smaller than usual), then it will have only a 6 metre wide useful floor area around it.

Wasn't there talk about this having a structural facade that doesn't need a central core?

Thou I really can't imagine that.

There won't be central core..Only elevator shafts..Concrete buildings, specially this one, don't need central core because basically the whole building is a concrete core..Very strong structure..

I would only like to know more about the facade..

Edit:

According to physical laws, this ratio is maximum that structural system can take..

D=maximum ratio
H=total height
B=minimal width

Now watch this:

D=H/B which means D=432/22.86 which means D=18.89 or simply 19..

19:1 is sick and on the edge but still possible..This thing is crazy..
