Although today, the perimeter spandrel beams were poured, marking the highest elevation for the tower, the actual roof slab has yet to be poured. There is work taking place within the exterior forms out of view (mass damper, etc). Looking at the 56 Street cam, rebar is still evident on the work deck for the roof slab to be poured.

In my view, until the actual roof slab is poured, one cannot officially claim that the tower is topped-out, regardless of the ceremony which took place on October 10, or that the perimeter is at full-height.

Glanced out my window this morning to see this being lowered - I think it's the concrete pumping boom...:

(sorry for the slightly blurry photo - had to quickly grab a camera and snap before it passed out of sight...)

I look forward to seeing more new supertalls in this stunning image.

P.S.: The hills of Westchester and Connecticut look great.

ESB is limestone.

Taken from this Indiana quarry:

ESB looks fine to me (click on the image to see full size):

I was focusing on the buildings in the foreground, and 432 Park photobombed me!

McSky,

Your photos have been very helpful in my observations of the progress of 432 Park Avenue. Your closeups of details were invaluable. Thanks you. Your vantage point was great. I suspect that you might be in the Excelsior, which when it was built, was the tallest reinforced concrete residential building in NYC, designed by Phillip Birmbaum, built in 1968.

You are certainly correct in that the CPB (concrete placing boom) was being lowered, marking the end of its use. I had been waiting to see that; fortunately, you caught it for me. Yesterday was its last day of use, as it poured (along with the concrete bucket), the final spandrel beams for the topmost perimeter of the parapet.

The aerial view provided (although I wish it was a bit clearer) by nyonair shows that disassembly of the core form began. I expect at some time, the exterior climbing forms and their associated work platforms and netting will be removed.
