With the completion of the topmost portion of the parapet, the top of 432 Park Avenue begins to be exposed against a deep blue sky. The Doka climbing system that formed the spandrel beams and columns from the beginning of construction of the superstructure, and its associated work platforms and netting begins to be disassembled.

Down below, a portion of the work platform had been previously removed, that had protected the two concrete pumps and acted as a staging area for rebar. The remaining portion, where the rebar crew had the rebar bending table, is currently being cleared of debris in preparation for its removal.

I happening to grab this screenshot from the 53rd St. cam about a week ago and I couldn't stop staring at it...

Something about the light...

What captivated me most, was how much it looks like a special FX matte paintings done for movies, notably, those done by Hollywood veteran Albert Whitlock

from The Sting

from Earthquake

Here's the first glimpse of the top of the parapet from my angle (click for full size):

I love this tower. It couldn't get more "roof" than this. 432 PA is the epitome of roof height.

Why is everyone (including me) so impressed with the parapet? It's amazing.

I'm not sure. It's just like the entire structure. Nothing different.

Well, we're finally seeing able to see the proportions of the thing as designed for the first time. It's no longer the hazy approximation of the shape, like it was when the netting covered the top, it's the real deal.

It's like you can almost see a heavenly glow coming from the unveiling of the parapet!

We finally get to see the pretty much finished product, the final proportions with nothing to obscure it! And the top will also finish off the sleek sharpness of the overall building which will also compliment its features!

They're coming. This is the first of many.

In 5-10 years, this building won't stand out very much on the skyline.
