The OCD in me is somewhat perturbed by the top of this building.

When netting is removed from the open air floors, the building will look like a stack of separated segments, each 12 floors tall. But now it appears that the topmost block will not be identical to the others. There are only 12 floors above the previous open floors and the top. Yet the top two or perhaps four will be open as well, leaving only ten or eight as visually solid.

The top block of his building is thus different. Ahhhh!

It will have windows so it will appear the same.

The part I'd like to inquire about is... won't those top 4 or 5 floors of walls act as sails from wind coming through the top where there is no roof, thus making it more likely that the building will sway in the wind?

I post pictures I've taken whenever I can, but like many NYers I am quite busy and don't get the chance to get out with the DSLR as much as I'd like. A huge % of pictures posted on this forum are simply reposted from flickr, so I'm not sure I see what's worth complaining about.

There's a roof, at least in non-technical terms. It's a parapet.

There will be no wind in those upper floors. It isn't really different from other flat-topped buildings around the world.

Theres a common fact stated to visitors to Manhattan that 'you can spot the native New Yorkers because they rarely look up'.. in other words, it's old hat to them. They've seen it all before and it's nothing special in their minds. Probably in the same way that Tibetan Monks don't stop every five minutes to take in the majestic views of the Himalayas or Polynesian islanders don't spend all day sunbathing on the beach.

True, there are some New Yorkers on here who love taking photos of their great city but to most, its just a place to work and live and they don't give a f**k about new skyscrapers being built.

I guess I'll never be a true New Yorker because I never stop looking up, or taking pictures.

In a non-technical sense, there is definitely not a roof above those top four floors. Generally a roof means something between you and the sky.

But in other news: Whew, OCD somewhat appeased. Windows have been installed in the lower two of those four open floors. It won't be as opaque as the fully enclosed floors but should help the top 12-floor segment of the building look equal to the lower segments.

I guess I'll make a bad New Yorker too, because I do love those skyscrapers! Even walking up 6th avenue past Rockefeller Center, my local friend and I were practically hugging the darn things!
They're just too cool to ignore because of some cliche piece of "don't look like a tourist" dogma.

It is. Beautiful area.

RE: Photos. I like taking photos of skyscrapers (albeit only with a cell phone and not a nice DSLR) but I just don't have a lot of time to find and get to these interesting vantage points. Anything I have to post wouldn't be very good or particularly informative given all the photos already posted here lol.
