Last day on the job; this is likely the last pic from me, from this angle.

For a sense of scale, take a look at the cars and buses crossing at Park and 57th.

^That is an awesome pic! Just out of curiosity, what do you do?
It's a shame that 299 Park had to go through three fires before much of anything was done- apparently there was reluctance on building management's part to install sprinklers, even after that bad incident in 1980. But then again, buildings of that time period were in an awkward place in terms of fireproofing- they were the first generation not built with the heavy masonry of their predecessors, and new methods of fireproofing didn't have much in the way of practical experience, nor did firefighters have much experience working with these new buildings. I've been reading old NY Times articles from the period about just this subject.

I was messing around on Street View and had the idea to make a couple gif. In the second one you can really see how our perception of height fails to capture the building's growth from up close.

That is a great shot! Hopefully wherever your next job/project will be, it would be taken from another angle from another building.

Or maybe from a building within the vicinity of the next great towers rising around Verre, Steinway and the Nordstrom.

Cheers!

My son has been in Manhattan this past 10 days- he's been well briefed to bring back some nice shots.

I work in skyscrapers all over town. I designed the HVAC for the entire 29th floor of the ESB!
