Fantastic pictures in the previous few posts.

Before that... I understand complaining about the architectural style of the building, or the color, or any other thing that you don't like about the way it looks. But complaining about the height of a building in New York City... on a SKYSCRAPER forum? Uh-uh...

Yea, the 8 foot pipe fell last night from the 80th something floor. Luckily no one was hurt. #nuts

Yeesh! An 8 foot pipe from 80 floors? Is there a hole in the sidewalk now?

Glad no one was hurt, that's scary!

it would be interesting to see what 432 Park would look like in the skyline 50 years ago... Probably charcoal black from all of the pollution

I agree 100%. I've seen similar critiques of tall buildings in Dubai. It just doesn't make sense to complain about the height of a building, especially one in a city famous for tall buildings, on SSC.

It definitely makes sense if it messes with the harmony of a skyline. If you can complain about the style and design of a building, why can't you complain about it's height? Height is just as much a part of a design of the building as everything else, why should it be off limits? It's called skyscrapercity, not tallestbuildingsforum. I thought we could discuss and critique any part of the building here, I don't get why people think otherwise.

I don't understand this opinion, and I see it every once in a while in this thread. I guess some people don't know that there are two other towers in this height range under construction as we speak, on the same street, and a handful of others not too much shorter in addition, within the general area.

It sticks out like a sore thumb like the Empire State Building does. Or the World Trade Center.

I'll admit you have a point--so I don't disagree entirely with what you're saying, and I believe I over stated my own point. How a structure fits in its environment is a valid point. But sometimes the criticism smacks of NIMBY.

A case in point was one complex of three 100-story plus towers (Marina Sky Towers) proposed in a concentrated area of tall buildings in Dubai called the tallest block. In that area there are already 4 tall towers built or U/C over 100 floors and several others in the 80s, 90s floor range. Among these were proposed 3 more towering towers, and the complaints began to roll in... sunlight being blocked, over-density, etc. The proposed towers were kind of monstrous, but I also saw a lot of NIMBY. True enough those towers, if built, were going to totally spoil my own view. But I thought it hypocritical to then complain about the buildings being too tall. Just saying...
