To reiterate what radio raheem said, the Now and then photos are the best, the progress that has been made sometimes we forget or take for granted, but photo's remind us. Thanks guys for the past and present pics.

Seeing as how some rude person posted about 20 spam messages, I'm bringing 432P back to its rightful place at the top of the page.

Not at all. I've no care if others like it or match my opinion, as taste is always personal. I simply find it silly when people equate tall = architectural brilliance!

My perspective is framed on the elements that are visible, and to that end I perfectly understand that the design is based not on a vendetta but rather the building's purpose - Create impressive interior spaces that harbor great views of the outside. The architect isn't ignoring the exterior, he's simply letting the interior form dictate the terms. And to that end he does an excellent job. It's graceful, it's honest and it will no doubt be a tremendous success. I simply think more could be done to the exterior for the sake of contributing to the skyline.

Perhaps a less personally attached interpretation would be more accurate. The intention probably wasn't "f-you buddy". I think the tower is intended to be viewed with appreciation and awe, just as are the more ornate, currently iconic towers.
Quite possibly so, but then the question is "What is there to be seen?" Some look at 432 and see, in essence, an occupied obelisk. As one poster offered earlier, (WTTE) a massive monument to engineering that draws strength in how it doesn't waver in form all the way to the top. Others see a disconnect in that same form because there isn't a definable top or elements to celebrate the verticality (possible side effect of large, square windows). It appears more mechanical than human, something arbitrarily cut off at some point. Neither perspective is wrong, just different.

If anything I'm beginning to think Vinoly is reveling in this polarizing nature of his product!

As a few people have pointed out, it's hard to really get a sense of the scale of this building from pictures, partly because of the absolutely immense windows, which our brains tend to subconsciously assume are about the size of the normal windows we see all the time.

But, notice the guy in the window here to get a sense of how huge these things really are (click pics for full size):

...and now, with the camera pulled back:

I think that's the main issue, the skyline was already unbalanced on the east side, so now also have a very tall building, not only more tall buildings than the west side.

But even with just one very tall building (225 West 57th Street) the skyline will be a lot more balanced. (even if East side will still be more dense and massive)

I had made a recent trip to Trump Skating Rink in Central Park. The views of Central Park South were breathtaking, and while the GM Building and Solow Place looked massive, the appearance of the now topped out 432 Park Avenue IMO blew it out of the park (pun intended). Even the most high quality pictures don't do justice to the massiveness of the towers.

A few and my friends and I had a conversation on these West 57th Street towers, and one of my friends said that 432 Park Avenue looked like a kid's drawing of a tower. Another of my friends said that "Central Park seems to be getting worse every day," and he was repulsed by how the windows on 432 Park looked. The common opinion was actually that One57 looked prettier, which seems to differ from the view of us forumers.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinions, of course. But ours are better

Honestly, I can accept that people don't like it. Some people like it on its own as a work of architecture but don't like it on the skyline. Others dislike it for other reasons. But the thing I don't get it how it ruins Central Park? The shadows issue is exaggerated, and it's not like the view of CPS was exclusively pre-war buildings before this showed up. Half of lower Central Park's appeal is the contrast between huge buildings and nature anyway, so....moot point?

It's weird considering whenever my kid brothers draw skyscrapers they're always with weird pointy shapes and circles and triangles and zigzags, not thin boxes like 432 Park

Idk if other kids draw thin boxes but that's not from my experience!
