Let me add a picture of a real "billion dollar prestige development" right here:
the time to moan over the loss of the Drake is far past. In its place is a still incomplete 400m+ tower along Park Avenue with only one tower to rival its views of Central Park, with retail component at its base.

Yeah, sorry to disappoint but 432 PA does not have a cheap cladding, a tacky crown or a kitschy lighting. I know it's very hard to understand ...

Let's dissect this post a bit, shall we?

Extract the juice out of every sq. ft. - Of course, just like every development in every city ever. Though not even this boxy building comes close to the banality of your average Shanghai highrise.

Also, your comparison to the Drake Hotel is odd. Surely that was a prestigious hotel, but let's start with the fact that it was at no time, adjusted for inflation or not, worth anything close to what this tower is worth, per sq. ft. And, it's not a hotel. It's a home/investment for the individuals who control this Earth. Big difference.

I think this building is one widow too wide. Will reserve my judgement when it is finished...

I get the same look when people imply this is excellence in design! We should stand together at the Top of the Rock and grimace at the polarizing opinions all day, just to make sure no one leaves overly satisfied!

Great skyscraper to see from the bottom and soon from the top. When I go to New York, maybe rich I will stay one night there.

That also explains why they chose to use the Potain MR 418 at 3 WTC (for everything but heavy steel lifts).

its a rendering, probably an earlier one, so the WTC isn't depicted.

Pretty old pic, even BofA is missing. But that happens a lot, i.e. renderings shown in old skyline shots.

Still cool though, gives a sense of scale.
