This tower has that gothic look that I like, it does remind me quite a bit of the Twin Towers (much skinnier of course). A solid, non-tapering tower like this really showcases height the best. Those billionaire tenants are going to enjoy amazing views!

"Gothic" look? How'd you come by that assertion, may I ask?

No man. This is gothic:

432 Park Ave is simplistic, and by it's size, intimidating. But not gothic.

Heh, that is classic Victorian. This is Gothic:

fourriverscharter

I have to assume that Marsh meant "Gotham," as in something belonging to New York. Which, as a gigantic, bold monolith, you can't argue with. Although I usually take that term to mean either art deco (ESB, Chrysler, 30 Rock) neo-Gotchic (Woolworth) or a combination of the two (570 Lex) -- generally embodying Hugh Ferriss' design principles.

Funny enough though, since we were just comparing the merits of 432 Park and the original Twin Towers, Minoru Yamasaki was famously inspired by Gotchic architecture when he designed the famous aluminum tridents of the WTC. And that's the cladding I was referring to when I suggested I would've loved 432 even more with something similar.

I think he meant 'Gotham' which refers to something that looks like it's from Batman.

I just wanted to post & say I love 432 Park always have. It's a simple basic design but I like it it vaguely reminds me of the Twin Towers. My friend visited the Observation Deck @ 1wtc & you can see 432 Park clearly behind the ESB. Soon, it will have some company in the sky!

Indeed a lot of new buildings were added to the skyline:

I found the two photos very interesting. So I took the freedom to outline new buildings in green and new-cladded buildings in blue. Sorry for my poor paint skills .

Can some one tell me, from which year Manhattan4's picture is?

I absolutely hate this building. Other than it being tall, there is noting else noteworthy about it. While the pictures taken looking up at the building from street level at night make the top part of the building look somewhat attractive, I suspect that anything that tall (because of its towering height) with symmetry and lights could be made to look interesting. I would not even call it ugly. It is bland. Mediocre would be too complimentary a description for this building. It ruins the skyline. Somebody should be held accountable for allowing this god dam awful piece of architecture to have been built amongst some of the world's most beautiful and recognised skyscrapers, in what is supposed to be one of the greatest cities in the world - what a shame!

I was kinda on the same page until I went to NY and saw it in person. Despite its height it really isn't noticed as much as one may think. This is probably due to the "bland" design. Standing on top of the rock looking at it, it isn't really overpowering or commanding in any way.
So all things said, yes the design could be better but is it bad? No I think it is a great addition to the eclectic NY skyline.
