Similar principle, but not quite as cool.

Taipei 101 has that giant round ball that's actually visible inside the observation deck level. With 432, the mass damper is just a big rectangular (I think) weight on the 80th floor (86th 'level', or 5th level down from the top). It serves the same purpose (offsetting the buildings sway), but it's not incorporated into the look of the building in any noticeable way.

I think the levels with the drums only have typical electrical & mechanical equipment.

Heh, funny, I've been wishing the metallic sheen was more prominent, to create a third color and texture to contrast with the concrete and glass (and to complete the Minimalist Materials Triumvirate.)

Here's another stitched together vertical panorama - this time with much better focus (and slightly better photoshop workmanship ). Click on the pic for full size, and enjoy peaking in the windows (is it just me, or is there a life-size Lego dude riding one of the elevators..?)

beautiful... thanks!

I know this is sort-of answered elsewhere, but this picture makes it clear...

So top 2 floors are "fake"... 3rd floor from the top appears residential..

Is that the "mass damper" on the 4th and 5th floors below the top?

I got some more pics when I was in New York at the beginning of this month, and finally uploaded them:

I like this one, it looks like the older 450 Park Avenue is protecting 432:

According to an article in a special issue of Concrete Quarterly (Concrete Quarterly Special Issue No. 01)
There are two tuned mass dampers located in the uppermost plant room on the 84th floor.
The combination of the open round drum areas, the mass dampers, and the extra stiffness of the core reduce the potential sway to acceptable levels. Those levels are generally lower in a residential building vs an office building.

I've been pondering the specifics of this for a while too, and since I'm in serious procrastination mode this afternoon, I did a little googling and some photoshopping, and here's how it looks the top floors are being used:

So, it seems the highest floor that actually has an apartment is the 7th from the top (the 79th floor). It's also interesting to see that there is some kind of a 'roof garden' planned for the 84th floor. Based on some aerial photos I've seen showing the building from above, I can't quite picture how they would squeeze that in with all the mechanical stuff that will be up there. Interesting though.

For the document that lists every floor's purpose, check this out.
