So, once again after the near to completion phase, they release an other render of the tower

I'm just going to say it: for the hour or so before sundown, this might be the best looking building in the city.

It does look nice, but I believe that accolade belongs to the Empire State Building which glows gold when hit by low angle sun rays. Later in the evening 432 probably looks the best.

Well, it'd have to be quite an accident for an airliner to hit this tower straight on. It's a very narrow "target", after all. But the result of a crash would probably be quite unlike what happened at the WTC, since this tower is essentially a large concrete pillar. The plane would be smashed to bits (since it's basically just a hollow aluminium tube), but the tower would probably remain standing. There would be a rather large fire, though, but a concrete building would probably survive it just fine.

Also, unless the plane managed to hit the tower dead in the middle of a wall, one or both wings would snap off and travel past the building without hitting it, spewing fuel in every direction. It could be quite devastating for the surrounding buildings.

Anyone else notice this crazy haze & sunlight phenomenon this morning? At first I thought she was blowing 432-style smoke rings, but what I think was actually happening is that the sun was at just the right angle to reflect off the windows into some very light fog/clouds, which created a 3D ghost image of the top of the building hanging in the sky - just in time for Halloween! That is extremely cool!

You should submit those photos to the NY Times or something.

This is awesome. I'm super curious myself, whether it's simply light reflecting in the haze and making it visible... or if the heat reflected off the windows is actually causing those little clouds of condensation.

Also, OB's photos show what a big difference it makes to have the netting down. Now that you can see the sky through those mech floors, that "floating boxes" effect really is pretty dramatic.

Some crack with your Central Park views?

"The latest addition to the Billionaire’s Belt girdling midtown Manhattan, and a ubiquitous new feature of the city’s skyline, is the Rafael Viñoly-designed CIM and Macklowe Properties-developed 432 Park, now nearing completion and briefly enjoying its moment in (and near) the sun as the Western Hemisphere’s tallest residential building. Less visible, but still right there in front of our eyes, is what I’m told is a, cosmetic problem. Two unconnected sources confirm that the architectural concrete that covers the poured concrete tower has already developed cracks, and that scaffolds hanging from the pillar in recent weeks were there because Nicholson Galloway, a top masonry restoration company, was hired to coat the structure with some “nasty stuff,” as one of those sources puts it, called Silane that will seal those fissures…for a while. Wikipedia describes Silane as “a colourless, flammable gas with a sharp, repulsive smell” that is used as a water repellant, and to protect masonry. Citing a confidentiality agreement, an official of Nicholson Galloway declined to discuss the matter. Anthony Manion, the principal in charge of the project for LendLease, 432′s builder, did not return three calls over the course of a week requesting a comment. LendLease, it’s worth noting, was also responsible for building One57, home of the famous dangling and dangerous construction crane of Hurricane Sandy fame."
