Is there any other source of seeing the construction of this besides the webcam at the moment while it's below ground level?

Aside from walking by, no.

Walked by this morning and took a peek...more of the same...line of trucks queued up...three+ shovels working...numerous drills running...doesn't look like any new retaining walls going in so they must be working in all solid rock now...hard to see much even through the gate...hole just keeps getting deeper and most of the machinery is down in the hole...very loud and busy site...going like gangbusters...foundation is clearly going to be deep in the bedrock

Those are blast covers, they deaden the noise and vibrations, and also prevent flying debris.

Yes yes, makes sense..

Those things are called blasting-mats..They are produced of the most wear resistant parts of recycled truck tyres which are bound thightly together with galvanized steel wires..These heavy rubber mats can be used over and over again..They weight about 2-3 tons..

It's all about perspective. 1 Madison Park is not so awkward depending on the angle and photograph.

I get to stare at it everyday at work. There are actually owl statues all around our windows on the 15th floor of the St. James building.

I also get to stare at it every day going to school and back. Except it scares me sometimes.
