Any noteworthy progress at street level? Say around the retail cube, or main entrance on 56th St? Pics?

Sad.
This discussion is def not worth continuing.
I'm in Edinburgh and London often- and they're stunning.

However, Manhattan is on an entirely different scale and the sky scrapers often make you forget about the low rise Victorian and Gothic buildings that populate the island.

I know quite some people who've been to NY, they all rave about what an awesome place it is... Mayfair, not so much.

I love the way this tower looks when you're close enough to see the architectural details. But from a great distance, it really does not compliment the skyline. The silhouette is so harsh, but also not quite large enough to be commanding (like the twins). I think when the other 57th st towers go up, it'll be much more balanced overall.

I know, it just commands attention. It shows that design is sometimes more important than the height.

^ I'm from Boston and I rarely ever hear about Mayfair. Architectures beauty is in the eye of the viewer. I hear people rave about New York architecture, modern architecture is great and it shows the possibilities of 21st century design and engineering, just because there is a difference in modern and old architecture does not mean we have to pick sides. I think that the difference in cities between 1900's and 1800's architecture and modern architecture makes for the best skyline.

I do not understand all the fuss about this building. To me, it blends perfectly with the Manhattan skyline:

I'd say the issue is that it doesn't blend in at all. Case in point:

It's just so blunt in its form, a testament to its purity of function since it doesn't attempt to offer anything to the public skyline other than "tall residential building here." It's not required to do otherwise, but it does mean that it sticks out like a stray, uncut hair on a fashion model.

This pic is great, even if you live halfway up you still watch over most of midtown.

The buildings fits fine in the skyline, and will only compliment the taller towers going up down the street.
