I was pretty indifferent about this building at first but now have grown to love how much it polarizes people. Especially the haters.

Maybe they're familiar with minimalism but don't like it. It's just as reasonable a proposal.

It's clearly done that. I'm taken aback by the aggression of the building's defenders, as if they need to convert the great unwashed! Apostates, we are!

At $60K monthly rent, that is about $720K a year. Just to put it into perceptive, the apartment is worth $18M, so it would take you 25 years at $60K per month to "pay off" the unit. Crazy.

I wasn't the one using words such as "disgraceful atrocity". What is this, a crime against the word of architecture and design? Why? Because it's minimal? No one is trying to change your opinion about the tower, or convert you. I don't like postmodern as I already stated many times on the forums however I don't say that particular movement is a disgraceful atrocity, quite the opposite I understand the need for it (not everything needs to be extremely modern), so I accept it, and I'm looking forward to see improvements, and who knows maybe one day I'll like it. If they are familiar with minimalism, of course they do have the right to dislike it, but they shouldn't claim that opinion as a fact. And again, we are just discussing, no one is trying to discredit your opinion about the tower, or minimalism in general, or convert you.

Yeah, but why rent? If you have $60k a month for rent, you most likely have lines of credit necessary to just get a mortgage. $60k in rent is $60k down the line. At least you get equity when you pay a mortgage.

Imo,what is taking aback is the ignorance of many people, usualy from Europe, who want to rebuild american cities according to THEIR standards.
Thanks God New York is not Paris,L A is not Barcelona.
432 is a pure masterpiece and,as i know, most of the New Yorkers like it.
GunnerJacket, your cheap statement is pure jesuitism as obviously the haters are way more agressive than the defenders.

If you have $60k a month for rent you're either an arms dealer or a Saudi oil baron, and 60k is chump change.

That only work if you plan to stay in New York indefinitely, not if the plan is only for a few years.

There are many CEO's that only have a contract for a few years, then their job might take them to another city (or even another country) or sport stars (that can also leave New York at the end of contract) or other similar situations.

Or you are Carmelo Anthony and make over 2 million a month, or if you are a top executive or a big shot lawyer, or a Tv celebrity... and the list go on.

This thing will look like an unfinished construction site forever. What a waste of resources.
And what a blooper on the once great Midtown skyline.

The Midtown skyline was great, yes - back in the 1920s/30s. Then came the boxes and it had no real peak(s). Midtown developed a 700 - 800 foot tall plateau. That's why we need those supertalls to create peaks and variety in the skyline.
