Heh, I hadn't really intended to post those 432x2 doodles -- don't want to seem like an obsessive about one wacky idea. But since it seems they may wind up here anyway, I may as well...

Why is this in the archive when the retail outlet hasn't opened?

Its not a finished building.

Really wish they'd get the drums lit. I snapped this picture from an airplane window last night - 432 should look spectacular in this view but without the lighting, can you even spot it? (trust me, it's there...):

More than that.. it's a bit like suggesting your current girlfriend gets plastic surgery so that she looks a bit more like your dead wife.

America needs to get over the 'twin towers' and stop trying to replicate them. Doing this wouldn't be a 'tribute'... it would be offensive.

"Stop trying to replicate them"...i don't know an example someone will do this. All new projects are single towers, everywhere. Do you have an example for the opposite?

I definitely didn't intend it as a tribute. In reality it would be a pretty major money grab; just one I happen to think would look good.

I'd like to see something bring balance to the part of the skyline that 432 Park (as much as I like it) has thrown out of wack. For my money, the rest of Billionaires Row is rising just too far away to keep 432 from feeling lonely. Something will eventually rise close enough to this tower to make it less so. I just happen to think twinning 432 is an elegant way of making that happen, one I think also mitigates some awkward aspects of the solo building, like the squareness of the facade.

If you find it offensive, that's fine. I actually brought up that possibility when I first floated the idea, and I'm sure plenty of New Yorkers might agree with you.

Luckily for you, there's no plan for it to happen... even though 555 Madison is ripe for redevelopment, Macklowe already has a design that's proven wildly successful in their target demo, and they're in pole position to take advantage of the next ultra-luxury wave in a couple years.

(Anyway, this silly debate is why I hadn't initially planned on posting those shots here. Oasis, do me a favor and don't post my stuff without permission, okay?)

I wasn't talking about an actual project in action. I was talking about many many people's desires I've been reading on here for years...especially when it came to replacing the WTC. "Should have been twin towers"...all the time.

I don't find it offensive at all and personally don't really care two hoots if they did it... but there are many people who WOULD find it offensive. Such as relatives of those who died that day being confronted with bad memories every time they saw a strikingly similiar project (were it to happen)..arise in Manhattan again.

Besides. There's no market for it at the moment. It has slowed right down and they're struggling to sell the apartments they have. If there WAS a market... you could be guarenteed it would be getting built right now.

O.k that's true. But i'm glad they don't heed the advice of those people. The original twins were great, but the new WTC Freedom Tower is much better imo

I guess very few people realize what a timeless masterpiece we have here!
I would like to experience midtown from these stunning huge windows!
Typically, that building is made for wealthy art collectors as the interior space is obviously a delight to organize.Vinoly is the anti Stern(who,by the way dislikes the baby)
..Vinoly is as brilliant as Stern is mediocre..

Of course, that's common knowledge at this point. The bubble's deflating. But most prognosticators seem to think that, while this initial frenzy is over, the next luxury gold rush is inevitable in a few (5-10) year.

Because Macklowe hit the market ahead of most of their competitors, they're not in danger of becoming overleveraged. Their building is (effectively) done, they're already making a return on their investment, so now they can turn their eyes towards whatever is next.

As a fan of this project, I'm excited to see what that will be.

I am one of those very few. I think it's a shame that we are living in world where Rafael Viñoly needs to apologize for his work, while in the same time, skyscrapers of very low quality are springing up like mushrooms after the rain.

the proportions are great. but minimalistic, stoic design with quadrate windows was a fresh thing a 20 years ago, stretched and recessed would have been more elegant. another failure is the uniform subdivision which takes out even more tension of the building.
