Of course, anyone, or any organisation, can have their own criteria and calculations. But beware; too many cooks, and all that...
This has been debated frequently.

Realize that CTBUH has no authority. They simply have an opinion like everyone or every group is entitled to. Personally, I put little value in their equally arbitrary and politicized rankings. For example, their inclusion of the mast in their 1WTC height is wrong in my opinion.

Granted, if a news organizations wants a number or rank to quote, they provide an easy source.

The fallacy here is thinking that there can be a "correct" ranking criteria. There are many interesting and valuable ways of comparing buildings. There is no point to trying to define an authoritarian answer.

Nobody said the CTBUH had any authority. Hence my explanation of why organisations adopt standards, especially in the absence of an official standard.

People like to see things ranked, and that applies even more so to fans of tall buildings. Even those like yourself that believe there can be no objective ("correct") ranking criteria have problems with certain definitions (WTC, spire, architectural top) thereby asserting that particular criteria is in itself incorrect. It's the old trick of stating absolutely that there are no absolutes.

I have no affiliation with the CTBUH but I fail to see how they or those who use their criteria are acting in an authoritarian way. What such organisations have done is taken the time to establish comprehensive criteria, published it for all to see, and stood behind it. This is why many use their criteria as a de facto standard. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Such beautiful photos on this page, they really put the spotlight on this beauty and its brave minimalism. Excellent piece of art, I still can't believe that Rafael Viñoly had to apologize for this building. Some others are those who have to apologize (let me give you a hint - precast lovers).

I can already imagine that same view with the Steinway Tower and Central Park Tower joining the party. It's going to be the most unique sight! Party!

Trump is living in Trump Tower in Midtown. Midtown is a total mess. Street closures, sidewalk closures, lane closures, the whole nine yards.

But why exactly? Super strict security measures?. He will eventually move to the white house, right?, I mean why would it stay 4+ years like that(as said a couple posts above) if he is not going to live there.
