Are there permanent metal railings at the mechanical floors?

Yes, it would have been better to use glass elements.

Exactly! Looks like a last minute afterthought..... completely breaking away from the purely minimalist character of this tower..... like a wrinkled stain in an otherwise perfectly ironed and crisp white shirt. Glass railings would have been much more appropriate. What an overlook from the part of the designers!

The whole point of designing the mechanical floors was to alleviate wind pressure on the building faces. Adding glass railing would have significantly mitigated this feature and might even force them to add an additional mechanical floor per stack

Maintenance workers could accidentally shatter a glass railing so it's probably some kind of ordinance that won't allow it, but still requires a "safe" metal railing.

Hmm so I thought this was more recent since nyonair posted it 3 hours ago, but it definitely looks like the orange construction netting is seen around the drums. So I guess it's a throwback? lol

I think it's top 2. And yeah, they even have nighttime lighting in a few of the fake windows to mimic occupied floors.
