I LOVED this building! I can't stand those twisted, screaming look at me, Dubaiesque buildings! It's plain (on the same time distinct, as it's very thin), and that's why it's so good!

And about ESB, let's face it: it's been 80 years! The city needs to move on. How many beautiful buildings Downtown were dwarfed by others? That's a natural process.

The design I showed wasn't dubaiesque, it was very much NY style. The setbacks are similar to the ESB's

Seriusly hope, that the pro. design is just a bad joke, to keep the real design a secret!. If not, the skyline is ruined

Completely agree, but at this point all we can do is pray that the architect will realize how bad this design is.

Thanks. I could draw up a good design for this, but this was all I could do with MS paint, which is pretty horrible for this type of thing.

How can it ONLY be 82 floors when it is 426 meters = 1397 feet tall? It should at least have 110-120 floors when the twins had 110 floors at 415 meters height.

There is a building in Riyadh that is 300m and 30 floors... so this isn't that crazy

Maybe 82 is just an estimate... And btw, I don't know what's wrong with those people thinking that this tower is ugly!! It's a masterpiece in the making!!! I f*king love this tower!! It's so tall and thin at the same time, that it will make this tower look unique!! and it would be a new landmark for New York City!

I'm sure with that spire on there, it would be close to 1wtc's height, hehe.

As for the design, we need to see more renders that show the actual facade and exo-skeleton details.. from what I read and see so far, it should be very unique.

As for the height itself..it's pretty darn tall and would stick out like a sore thumb..I am sure even if it was thicker, it still would stick out..afterall, it's a whopping 1400', roof height no less!!! Most of the tallest in the midtown area are only around 1k' roof height..so 1400 is huuuuge regardless if skinny or thick...

...which is a good thing! As architects will now see this and want to push the limits even further and follow its' footsteps or even beat its' height in the future.

This skinny chocolate kitkat bar, will defo pave the way for more midtown supertalls, and maybe even a MEGAtalll

This was the Drake Hotel. And yeah, as you can see here at Google Streetview, it's gone for quite some time already.

Btw, what a waste! Shame on you greedy investors...
Quote:
The hotel was acquired in the early 1980s by the Swissotel company of Zurich, which undertook a $52 million room-by-room renovation of the building. Renovations were completed in 1991. In 2006 the hotel was sold for $440 million to developer Harry Macklowe. It was demolished in 2007.

This historical beauty (including some well-kept smaller townhouses) had to make way for the sore thumb of 432 Park Avenue:

I agree with you that it looked good. It was a beautiful building. If only there was a way to both save this hotel and build 432 Park. If only they demolished that hideous, Mecca Abby looking Metlife Tower instead of the Drake Hotel

Very elegant tower. It is plain and simple, but that is the way i like it. What do New Yorkers think about this new skyscraper?
