Glass looks ok. You'll problably get some great reflections when it covers a larger part of the tower.

I have to say this "mirror" cladding is getting really old. All the buildings at the WTC have it, One57 has it, and this building and its neighbor both have it. Can't anyone in New York come up with something a bit more original?

It would be because these are office towers, and the reflective cladding would help keep the temperature inside down a lot, and therefore reducing cost.

Well this is a hotel, and One57 is a hotel/residential. But I think residents of buildings like One57, and occupants of the WTC just want a lot of natural light, and more expansive views and glass offers that.

I don't doubt that there are practical reasons for it. It's just that it gets monotonous after a while. You'd think they'd be a bit more inventive in their designs.

The planned hotel in between them will be either brick or concrete.

Yeah I definitely agree with that. But this is a hotel, so they're not likely to splurge on materials, and that can be said about any type of material. But it's nice to see some glass buildings break from the pack a bit like One57, BofA has a more frosted type of glass. But I'm splitting hairs, I do agree with you though.

Judging from the pictures above, the scaffolding for the hotel in the middle is around half the height of 1715's lobby, I think...
